Clutch safety switch

I have a 1989 f250 with a 302 hooked to a five speed manual tranny. There is a switch on the plunger going into the slave cylinder. This switch has four wires going to it. My switch is worn and the plunger doesn't push far enough to make contact. I've looked around at a couple of parts stores and they don't have the switch so I just want to bypass it. Someone told me there is a dummy connector plug from any automatic with the same efi system that plugs into the same plug under the dash and all I have to do is get the plug from a wrecker. Is this true?

I never heard of a dummy connector plug, but here's the Ford part number for the switch: E8TZ-11A152-A.

There's no Motorcraft number for it, so it's a dealer item only.

Forgot to mention..while the basic part number of 11A152 remains the same, Ford may have updated the rest of the number. The switch I listed fits 1988/89, and maybe later. 1987 is different.

It is a government mandated safety law, enacted in the 1980's to prevent a vehicle with a manual transmission from being able to start in gear, the cars have them too....that's why it's on there.

The law doesn't pertain to trucks larger than one ton. or at least it didn't in the 80's.

It's just a good idea to have one if possible. I representd an older guy back in the early 90's who crushed his mechanic's leg because his car did not have one. People forget or don't know and that can lead to personal injury or property damage. Over the years I had a number of cars that did not have neutral safety switches. Most of the time I remembered to push in the clutch/make sure trans was in park. On occasion I would forget--especially if switching between a vehicle that had one and one that didn't.

Yes, there is a jumper in that plug from the factory. I know because I converted my auto trans '91 to ZF 5-speed and I had to pull the jumper out so I could plug it into my clutch switch. I put the jumper into the plug on the parts truck I bought to get all the ZF stuff from so the guy who bought it could put in an auto trans.

Go to junkyard and find an automatic truck, look up under the dash and the same connector is up out of the way with the plug in the end of the harness, just pull it out and put into your truck harness, i just went saturday and got one for my truck.
