I have a 2002 ranger edge and I have to find the vin nr on the chassis to pass the inspection at DMV to rebuilt the title. They have the VIN at the windshield and door but they need the one on the chassis. I searched for it on the right and left upper side of the chassis from the cab to the tailgate but there is nowhere to be found. Is there other place where can it be?
The VIN number is normally engraved or on a sticker in numerous places in the vehicle, inside the doors, the dash, the trunk, engine, and/or quarter panels.
Others include:
Left instrumentation panel
Drivers door or post
Firewall
I couldn't find anywhere else beside dash and door. On the firewall is insulation and I don't know if I can take it off but I will try tomorrow. Where is left instrumentation panel?Man this guys from DMV are just crazy, I've been there five times and I am just desperate.
Thank you
The owners manual for my 99 Ranger does not indicate there is a VIN stamped on the chasis. Check your manual.
Vehicle identification number
The vehicle identification number is attached to a metal tag and is located on the driver side instrument panel. For your protection, you will also find the vehicle identification number in the following areas:
²
the left and right front fenders ² the left and right front doors ² the front and rear bumpers ² the hood ² the left and right rear quarter panels ² the decklid ² the liftgate
I will search for it today again because I will have to go to DMV tomorrow AGAIN. I was at Ford dealer allso but those guis don't have idea where is, they sent me from body shop to mechanics and from mechanics to bodyshop. Best place is still FTE. Thanks for replays guys, now I have more options.
Tell DMV to find it themselves, it's their job they have the book to tell them were it is, and how to check it. how to verify it's not tampered with and when it needs to be checked further. This guy is just giving you a line of BS.
Can I assume that you're attempting to title in FL an out-of-state vehicle? Verification of the VIN can be performed by people other than the DMV Examiner. If you purchased it from a dealer, then they can perform the verification and the notorary. Also, there is not stipulation that a VIN other than what is convenient in the windshield is required.
From FL HSMV.
What should I know about VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) Verification? When applying for a title on a motor vehicle previously registered or titled in another state, the VIN on the actual motor vehicle must be checked to ensure that the vehicle is the same as the one described on the proof of ownership.
The VIN can be verified by one of the following:
A law enforcement officer from any state.
A licensed Florida or out of state motor vehicle dealer.
Finaly I pass the inspection and now I have a tag on my truck. When I went back they had somebody that find the VIN. I don't know where it was but I don't care any more, I don't want to deal with these DMV guys anymore.
