I am planning on getting an 07 escape XLT V6 this week and have a couple questions:
1. FWD vs 4WD - I live in Southern Ontario, so the 4WD is appealing just from the weather perspective - though in my particular area we haven't had much this year. What is the fuel economy hit for taking the 4WD...what other benefits for takingthe 4WD?
2. I will occasionally be towing a small utility trailer, and perhaps a bass boat, do I required the towing package (with oil cooler) - or do I simply need to have a hitch installed for this type of load?
The XLT pretty much has all the options installed already. I would stay away from the moonroof. I would go with the all wheel drive even though it may drop gas mileage about 2-3 mpgs while engaged. I would also get the tow package because it's better to tow with the proper equipment with safety in mind. The 2007 is a good choice before the design changes on the escape start in 2008. I like the 2007 appearance much better than the newly released 2008's.
The tow package is a good option because it will be pre-wired and also the hitch is barely visible compared to an aftermarket hitch. Good luck with your purchase. I use my Tribute to tow a 17' 6" bass boat.
I was thinking of putting an aftermarket hitch on, but this one came up with the tow package and I figure the oil cooler alone is probalby worth the price. I would think it should add some longevity to the tranny even if I am not towing alot.
