Door Tubes

I have door tubes from a truck from the junk yard. Does anyone have any advice on where to mount them on a '68? There's a hole in the door frame next to the door open sensor - should I use that? Is there a "best" place to drill the holes?

I think he is talking about a tube that wires are ran through, there is a grommet at each end that allows the tube to slide inside the door when it is closed. But I agree need clarification.

The opening behind the dome light switch leaves plenty of room for the tubes.... Another option is the contact switches that attach one to the door and one to the jamb and make contact only when the door is closed, no wires in the opeining....

It would have if you were to install power locks, power openers, power windows or door poppers. The tubes keep the wiring from getting pinched or shorted when the door is closed.

Power Door openers are a solenoid and relay system that will unlatch your doors via a push button or a remote control. The remote is just like the ones the new cars have. Door poppers are just a small plunger that pushes the door open about 1/2" at the same time the solenoid releases the latch. Old custom stuff. I'm putting the entire set up in a 'glass bodied '49 Merc now. This system has an 8 function remote, so with the use of relays you could remote operate 8 different functions from outside the car. Lots of possibilities.....

Sorry for the long time getting back to this. I've been playing with my FJ40 while my '68 F250 is in Montana getting a diesel put in.

I am putting automatic door locks and speakers in the doors and the wires need to run and have protection. So I got some of the "accordian" rubber tubes that came on later trucks to use. I was about to start cutting up my doors and thought I had better get some advice from the folks here - and then my truck left town without me.

I hadn't thought about the fancy modern contact things, that's a good idea.

They work ok, probably more of a show car thing then something for a daily driver though. The flex tubes from the newer pickups do an excellent job protecting the wires if they are installed correctly....
