Ok, here's DirtyDog's real secret to that 17 mpg @ 75-80 mph (wow !).... Edmonton Alberta elevation 2192 ft. Detroit Michigan elevation 690 ft. All downhill !!!
Best I can get @ those speeds is around 14mpg.

Sound Pressure Level Tech... you get 8.9MPG city because your six amps are drawing 12,000 kilo watts of power and your poor alternator is sucking 190 HP off the FEAD
Not to mention the weight addition of the amps, cables, stiffening capacitors and speaker enclosures....
BTW have you blown out the back window yet?... that is the ultimate SPL test....well that and bleeding ears!
Don't get you nickers in a wad...I am just funnin wit cha!!! grin
If the vehicle wasent all stock without a single piece of audio equipment in it, I would agree with you. Installs like the one I am doing dont get one in two weeks. It wont all be in there for months yet. So no, your incorrect as why I get only 8.9 MPG.
Altitude, crappy fuel, city speeds lower then 40MPH most of the time, heavy BSEG foot, cold air and no use of block heater, excessive front end toe in, low tire pressure, large tires, lifted, crappy fuel, dirty MAF, large "it's a Hemi" population, BSEG inducing acceleration, .......
I commute with my 7800pound 3v V10 4x4 4door 4.30 LB SRW truck and can get her up to 11.7~12.2MPG with pedestrian starts and careful attention to all the above issues...
But I have many weeks every year where the BSEG and Hemi's conspire to make a tankful only get me 10.3MPG.... especially when I use the Tow/Haul button a lot for the higher shift point RPM experience when feeling froggy with PSDs on steroids are close....

boy fred can hit the nail on the head!! there's just something about that "exhaust spooling" sound that makes my right foot alittle heavier...........especialy with 39's............buy the time they spool up...........I'M GONE!!!!
a quick HEMI comparison..........my dad does drive a '07 2500HD 4x4 dodge (Darned Old Dudes Go Everywhere is what he says) with a hemi.........he's not impressed with his 13mpg highway.....and he does drive it with a egg under the accelerator! he puts about 60K on it a year going to cattle sales. after i purchased my V10 he did like the power difference, but the ford dealers just woun't give him the deals that dodge does. he don't pull that much so it don't really bather him!
2nd HEMI comparison.........a guy i work with was looking for a 3/4 ton truck..........i said he'd probably be hapy with a F250/350 w/ a V10.........even after he saw my milage and mods he chose a '05 2500HD 4x4.........he was shocked at 12mpg highway w/ 33's, and towing a hay trailer.........he got a whopping 7mpg.........he came to work that next week and told me he should have tried a V10........now he's selling his dodge!
it's hard to beat a 10! in more ways than one..............maybe someday everybody else will catch on !!
I own a 04 F350 supercab 4X4 with a 6 speed manual and a 3.73 rearend
My wife and I drove across Canada this past summer . we averaged 70 mph and drove through a lot of mountainous terrain/ we logged over 7500 miles and our average MPG was 17.3 . I'd call that pretty good mileage for a 7000 lb vehicle.

Hey...here is another 17+ mpg SD V10. Either they drive real smooth...or they have better fuel??? Whatever it is...sure nice to hear about!
Did you make your calculation using Canadian Imperial gallons? If so, the correction back to a US gallon will bring the mileage down.

Wow, looking at this...I might as well ditch my Dodge with 5.9 for one of these V10's - the gas mileage would be about the same if not better on the highway!
You are gonna start somtin and poor old ART will have to delete my next three posts...just stop brother it aint worth it...
I am a short trip from Tyler to Lampasas...bring that Dodgem down here and we can determin if weighted down with the loads my truck will haul you are so impressed with your fuel milage, speed, acceleration or comfort...grin...oh yes.... BSEG!

This is my second V-10 now, and I went back to it after getting rid of 5.9 Durango RT, and yes your milage will improve with the V-10.
