its worse at cold start mode but still noticable at low idle. where you really notice it is slowing down it pulls very hard.

Brakes ok? This is really not a failure mode of the tranny I have ever heard of. Usually if the stator locks, the truck will not go over 35 to 40 mph.

I have the same problem with my truck. I think my problem is that the idle is two high. I would say check that. I doubt its your trans. I just did a trans flush on mine and my truck only has 95000mi.

Turn the idle speed screw back if it's a carbed truck. If you turn it all the way back and the idle speed is still too high, then you have a vacuum leak somewhere letting air into the engine.

Do you have air conditioning? Does the problem happen when you have the defroster on? The reason I ask is, I used to have a creeping/surging problem with my 1985 F150 when trying to slow down and/or when waiting at a stop light. The problem was cured when I disconnected the air conditioning. I did that by pulling out an electrical connection on top of the air compressor.

My air conditioning is not functioning either.

I should make a correction though, I disconnected the wires/plug that ran to the top of my alternator from the AC.

Didn't touch the AC compressor itself.

Let us know if that works for you.
