my '82 with a 351w and a c6 creeps when in gear to the point it feels hard to stop it when braking. it acts like the stator is locked but im not sure i dont want to tear out my tranny if im wrong. does anyone else have this problem or do i have a problem?
yes the front brakes are ok and the rear are new. actually i havent driven it that fast because it is still in the project stage. DO you think sevicing the tranny will help? just old oil?
I have the same problem with my truck. I think my problem is that the idle is two high. I would say check that. I doubt its your trans. I just did a trans flush on mine and my truck only has 95000mi.
Turn the idle speed screw back if it's a carbed truck. If you turn it all the way back and the idle speed is still too high, then you have a vacuum leak somewhere letting air into the engine.
i'll try the idle it is carb engine its not original but its been in there a while and i removed a bunch of the emissins lines and most of them didnt look very promising.
Do you have air conditioning? Does the problem happen when you have the defroster on? The reason I ask is, I used to have a creeping/surging problem with my 1985 F150 when trying to slow down and/or when waiting at a stop light. The problem was cured when I disconnected the air conditioning. I did that by pulling out an electrical connection on top of the air compressor.
