Daytona is a lot more than who has the best engine, handling is an issue also. they may not have the toyo's set up quite right yet,and the bodies may not be good for the draft yet.but to answer your question, the motor is most likely a v-8 toyo designed for nascar approval, doesn't have to be a "stock" motor offered to the masses like it used to be.

Every manufactor runs a motor of there own but they have to meet NASCAR's guide lines.

I thought all the bodies were a version of the Chevy Monte Carlo.

Since when was there a two door Taurus or Fusion, or a two door Dodge?

funny you brought that up,Bill. when dodge 1st came back into nascar a few years ago, they used the interpid RT(sp?) and Nascar used the same templates for the dodge as they did for the taurus. Well,i used to harrass the dodge fans i work with and Call the car the dodge the interpid Really Taurus. that pissed them off to no end!!

The bodies are now identical and made to another NASCAR specification to make them all perform exactly the same. The point of the show is drivers as stars, not the cars. Decals attempt to fool the fools watching that it is a Ford, Chevy, Dodge or Toyota. The Craftsman truck series is the same joke. I lost interest a very long time ago. Was the last stock-bodied Ford in NASCAR the early 1990s T-bird?

With the Car of Tomorrow, the last little bit of pretending they are different is gone. In years past, when a team switched brands of cars, they used the same cars as before but used different sheetmetal and different engines with the rest of the car the same. With the COT, the only switch necessary will be the engine, decals and possibly the bumpers. With all the engines custom made with the same specifications, there is really very little difference between them. When is the last time you saw a Toyota engine without an overhead cam (70s) ?

The sponsors and NASCAR rules have also made the drivers more generic. With most of the drivers, their interviews are very generic. If you hid their faces and altered their voices, it would be difficult to know who was talking unless you knew the sponsors.

SURE DO MISS THE OLD DAYS OF RACING

Pretty funny stuff right there..........considering the ONLY name plate used in NASCAR that's made in the U.S. is the Toyota Camry.

And knowing your love for Mexicans......can't imagine you rootin' for the Fusion.

Don't choke on 'dem bones!!!

You sound like you're more up to date than me, but I remember each manufacturer had their own template and certain sheetmetal had to be factory (trunk, roofline?????)

I went to the 1st NASCAR race in Vegas when the Tauri cleaned up....I know GM cried so hard that within a few races the Taurus had a lot less wing.

Seems like when GM starts a long streak, it takes the better part of the season to make "adjustments".

My recollection is that the Yates headed (basically canted valve Clevelands on dry sump small journal W blocks) always made more power....another reason GM got aero advantages.

All my recollection is from years ago...........most likely real out of date stuff.

So y'all are saying that NASCAR today is about the drivers, and not the cars? Personally. I'll take the drivers of the past over most of what passes for drivers today. At least a kid could get an autograph from the oldtimers, most of the new guys act like baseball players.

I love to watch the old NASCAR races. They used to use real cars in the old days. The drivers really knew how to drive, because the cars were almost stock, not the honed cars of today. Yes, the drivers of today, do act like Baseball players. I cannot believe how NASCAR has changed, and not for the better.
