HORRIBLE vibration

just recently, my bronco's engine has started to vibrate horribly at idle and around 3000 rpm. It vibrates so bad that the entire bronco just shackes violently. i know that it isnt the drivetrain, because it vibrates when i'm sitting still, idling. yesterday, i pulled all the plugs and cleaned them and also cleaned the distributor cap and rotor, but it made no difference. the only thing that happened a little before this started is that the bronco backfired, and now it seems to be running richer.... broken power valve maybe. I just really need some help figuring out why my engine is vibrating so bad. all your help is much appreciated

HORRIBLE vibration

Check your EGR valve and the one-way valves for the smog pump system (one behind the intake manifold & one beside the trans on the R).

Check the compression. Also, you didn't happen to hear a bang from under your feet before this happened did you? The weight could have come off of the flexplate.
