I have an 86 Bronco and recently purchased a set of "used" wheels and tires (Western Wheel Corp. Aluminum Mods w/ Pathfinder tires 33x 12.50 R15). I thought the wheels would bolt right on since the lug pattern is correct however, the wheel studs aren't quite long enough...the wheels I purchased are alloys not thin like the stock steel ones. In other words I lost a 1/2" of stud because of the thickness of the wheel. So, I have two routes as I can see it but am hoping that someone else can help:
1) Buy new rims and have the tires dismounted, remounted and balanced.
2) Pound out the stock studs and replace with longer ones, I have heard that NAPA is a good source for s wheel studs, are they? (obviously this is much cheaper but will involve 1-2 days of labor due to the need to repack front bearings etc.)
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Earl
PS - I know that these are going to rub slightly and am considering putting a minimal 2-2.5" suspension and/or 1-2" body lift any help would be appreciated (ie good products and or good retailers)
You know--it's funny, I went through this same thing friday... What you need is different lug nuts. You're prob trying to reuse the stock style lugs. You need this style: http://www.jegs.com//cgi-bin/ncommerce3/ProductDisplay?prrfnbr=22898&prmenbr=361 It's the lug nut on the far left in the picture. Buy the way, the above link is to the correct size for your truck...

I was using the stock lug nuts but I also tried the short "mag truck lugs" and couldn't get them to fit in the wheel holes. I will try the ones you have sent but I see two possible problems the length of the shaft and again its diameter. Anyways, I'll give em a shot and let you know....if it works it is certainly easier than either of the alternatives.
Thanks so much for responding.

FIXED!!!
Just thought I would drop a note with the outcome....
The mag lug nuts do work however, it took me a while to figure them out. At some point the wheels had acorn style lugs used and the ledge on the aluminum stud hole was crushed down inside causing a lip and therefore a slightly small diameter. Anyways after a little filing they fit good. Thanks!

Also, your point in regards to these type of lugs is well taken...never use a impact wrench for these type of lugs you risk burning your studs and getting a lug stuck. Hand tighten them!
