I was going to wait until I got it back from inspection and had tags on it but I can't wait any longer. I pick it up about a week ago. Its a 1988 4x4, A4LD auto with a EFI 2.9L. Its got a D28 and a 7.5 rear for now. I would like to do a 302 V8 swap and 1 ton axles(Maybe D60 front and D70 rear). I am thinking I would like to run about a 40 inch tire.
I would like to have it that tall sitting on the ground instead of the trailer. Somewhat fitting that is the same trailer that took the old ranger away and brought this on in.
thats awesome man! that thing looks pretty dang clean! if you are gonna take the time to swap another motor, i'd do efi 351, but thats just me. i know its pretty early for serious ideas. just something to think about it!
keep us posted on the buildup!
also if you get a chance check out the white rhino build on pirate... might inspire you!

With the small ranger engine bay a 302 is a bolt in but a 351 takes a little more work. I have re-built engines and I have a friend that is even better so I think we can build a 302 or a 347 stroker better than a 351 and not have the headacks of the 351 install.
My buddy has a Bronco II with the same engine, axles, everything, but with some 235/75R15 mud brutes, and that is the weakest little thing I've ever seen.
A D28 TTB, man that sounds strong...
If you put a 351W or stroked 302, some 1 tons, and some 40s, that would be one nice rig.
seeing as a 302 and a 351 are the same size, i don't see where there will be any problems fitting one in there
the 351 is a little wider and the headers have clearance issue, mainly around the steering shaft. I am not saying it can't be done, its just a little more work. I just don't know yet, still researching it. I am kind of thinking maybe do a stock 302 just to get my feet wet and go from there.
