i have a 2000 ford ranger 4x4 w/3.0 eng.the multifunction switch has had the ghosts running it for a few years, would come on at times with no advance warning.four or five wipes then ok for a day or a week.well i had to use the truck for work for a few weeks driving about six hrs a day, the wipers were driving me crazy coming on at least ten times a day.i had it, went to the stealer, they said $80 for switch $140 for labor for only $220 total, whole steering column had to come out.told them i'll think it over.did a lot of searching on this site and found a post about spraying electrical contact cleaner into switch.i was a bit sceptical but what the hell.found some at hd, took off the end cap of the stalk and a small plastic piece with electric contacts.sprayed both pieces then reassembled.knock on wood, it's been four days and no ghosts.i'm probally jinxing myself but so far so good.
Wow, when I replaced mine it was $35 from the dealer and it took me 45 minutes to replace it. The column cover had to come off, but the column didn't have to come out.
If you havent had, or know if service proceedure 00B40 has been done on your 00 Ranger, read through this post by Rockledge & call your Dealer with the vehicles VIN #.
Probably not the Dealer that gave you the song & dance story about replacing that multifunction switch, it could save you some bucks. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/2...on-switch.html
