A couple months ago I lost my headlights. I had power from the fuses and at the headlight switch. All the other lights worked, including the DRLs and flash-to-pass. I didn't have time to pull the dash and column cover and troubleshoot further, so I bypassed the resistor on the DRL circuit and just lived with it.
Well this past weekend I finally had time to tear into it. What I found was the connector that plugs into the top of the multifunction switch has a burnt slot. I can push on the connector and the headlights function normally. I tried cleaning the contact surfaces and even tried a little electrical contact grease, but nothing helps. The pins on the multifunction switch are clean. The switch is functioning properly.
So I need a new plug. My question: can the plug be replaced, or am I pulling that piece of wiring harness?
(Posted in the electrical systems/wiring forum too)
Sounds like something you could pick up at a wrecking yard. I have not seen that particular switch/plug. Does the multifunction switch have male spades on the back of it? Could you cut the plug off and crimp spade connectors on the individual wires that are on the plug?
The male side of the connection is on the switch. I don't think there is enough room to use individual connectors on the wires. They'd have to be pretty small.
