A guy in my lodge did it for me. He owns and operates an auto repair place, but from what I remember it took him about an hour. The thing I like about the Painless, is if the truck needs to go back to the dealer for anything warranty, I can unplug it rather than remove it completely. It also does not leave a footprint in the ECM, thus no error codes. I have a Power Commander III on my Harley that manipulates info post ECM, which works great... Same type of theory.
Be advised, it has 10 levels of performance boost and the highest setting, makes this truck have huge gains in its ability to outrun most things on the roads these days.
npccpartsman I want all of the information I can get to decide what I am going to purchase. All programmers and modules have good points and bad! I just want to get the most results on the question that I asked. I appreciate all of the replays. It was a pleasure to get a reply from a Shriner because I am a Maison. It may bore to some people. But some of us have little experience this is a big help especial to me.I hope some day there is someone out there that need help with deciding weather to buy a programmer or a module. Then I can guide him with good experience in modules and programmers to help him purchase the best thing for his money and get the best results.I don't mean to sound like a broken record I just want facts!
Good to meet you skirk55 :-) My wife went to High School at Council Rock which is very close to where you live.
Something I did not mention before is... 5 Shriners in my Motor Escort Unit purchased the Painless units at the same time, mainly because we got a huge dealer discount. All 5 trucks, (2 ford - 3 dodge) have had the same positive results, but I must admit the dodges are getting better fuel milage than the fords. We have had these units since early spring of 06.
Looks nice, If you can't tell I got an 03 VTX1800C... Now she has power.. not as fast as a sport bike but damn close until 120MPH.. Tons of tourque w/ my Johnny Chees custom mapping on the Power commander..
VTX's are very fast... Faster than I need to go for sure :-)
Shoot I bought the fastests cruiser because I was thinking it was time to stop fooling around, doing wheelies over 100MPH on sport bikes!!! And slow down a bit.. But I still need to have some fun..I'll say it again. STOCK IS NOT AN OPTION!!
Shriner. You say you get 18 to 18.5 using the Painless.
What setting do you have yours on?
I just bought a 2000 F250 that has a Painless module.
I set mine at +2 for daily driving and 6 or 7 when towing.
Seems to work OK.
Actually the HO options on the tuners are the most efficient therefore they theoretically should get the best mileage. Usually it's the right foot factor that limits this. It's hard to get that 6.0 grin off you're face once your addicted to it--LOL.
When I first got the truck (and therefore the Painless power module), I ran it on "0" for a tank full. Got about 14 mpg city (to and from work, store, etc).
So your saying that, assuming nother else changes (driving habits, routes, frequency of trips, etc), and set the module to HO, my mileage will increase?
Once you get past the "Oh Jesus, this thing flies" and get that outta yer system, the fuel mileage should go up... but your results may vary from mine. Tire size and air pressure play a big part of it too, as well as the terrain you drive thru. Here in south florida, it is very flat.
