I am a newcomer to this site. Hello to everyone out there. I hope you can help me. I have a 95 psd 5speed that has a problem. It is very slow out of the hole. When coming up a hill it will feels like it is losing power, it doesn't matter what gear you are in. I have changed the fuel filter and cleaned the screen on the side of the canister. It has some sort of flutter at about 2500-2700 rpms. How much fuel pressure should i have at an idle? It feels like i am running out of fuel. any help would be appreciated. thanks alot.
FP at idle is ~60psi, but it's hard to see on the gage because the needle bounces. Just guestimate it. These fuel pumps usually leak if they are worn out.
Do you have fuel in the engine valley?
How many miles on it?
You need to test the Fuel Pressure. I use an electric FP gage and prop it under the wiper so I can see it while driving. YOu need to see if the fuel pressure is dropping under a load = (weak FP). If that's an original pump it's likely due for replacement.
I checked fuel pressure at an idle and I have somewhere between 50 and 75 psi. Like you said it jumps all over. I will have to get some hose to check it with a load. I will be sure to post back after I check. thanks for the help.
I put a tee in the line running to the MAP sensor and ran a hose to the cab attached to a guage. I can get about 12 pounds of boost at 2500rpm. The only other hoses that could be leaking are the big ones attached to the head correct?? thanks for the help I will get a hose to check the fuel pressure under a load tomorrow.
Is that the highest pressure you got? You should see 18-19 PSI boost IMO. It will defuel @ ~24 psi.
Yep, the big hoses may be leaking. Use soapy water spray on the boots while it's running. Be sure to check the MAP hose and band clamp on the turbo too.
Look at the turbo blades on the intake side. If you are using the stock air box there may be a chance of a dusted turbo. THe stock air box has been known to leaking dirt past the filter. Most here replace it with something else.

I finally got a hose and a ice free road to check my fuel pressure under a load. I got it all the way down to 10psi. I then checked another truck here and could not get it below 60psi. So I assume that means that my fuel pump is very weak? The big hoses seem to be fine as well as the MAP sensor hose. I didn't look at the turbo fans yet. I will do that if I end up changing the fuel pump.
thanks

Yep, you have a FP replacement in your future. It's not too hard. Just watch that darn pesky tappet so it doesn't fall in to the engine. After you have the FP bolts loose rotate the engine by hand until the FP pushes up about a 1/2-3/4 inch.
Here's a good place to start. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/5...ight=fuel+pump
I changed the fuel pump today.. and that was the problem.. runs great now. I think it is now time to get rid of the muffler and back pressure valve.
Thanks for all the help Cuda_jim. I guess I could have told you I have changed one of those pumps before, but only because it was actually leaking fuel.
thanks again
