Your vehicle has the torpedo option. The red button fires a torpedo from the forward tube. The black one fires the aft tube.
Press the red button when someone cuts you off in traffic, and the black one if someone is tailgating (or following) you.
Red and black button are for the alarm system. Black one is for the valet option. red one should flash when the alarm is activated. You probably wont find anything in the manual for the alarm. what you are describing is on an aftermarket alarm system. Did you get a key fob to lock and unlock the doors? If you did not you need to look under the dash and find the alarm "black box" and look for a manufacturer name and model and contact the alarm manufacturer and get a fob to operate the remote.
Did some looking and the red button wasn't attached to any thing. The black button led to a black box under the dash hanging loose. This had several wires, some unhooked, and some matching the wires on the red button. the box had a ford security system lable with some lables dated 11 5 99 my explorer is a 2002 ,so this had to be a add on attempt that was not completed. Solutoin? deleted the whole mess. the PAT still works so i'll leave it the way FORD sent it out.
