Speedometer going 50, even in park!!

Well, I did a search, and I guess I'm not the only one with this problem. My Speedometer went goofy this morning and now will only go down to 50. The tranny shifts fine, and it appears the odometer is working right (didn't have any mile markers on the back roads to very it is still right). At a stop it reads 50, and will increase with speed, i.e at 30mph it read 80. Seems it did it after a run on the highway at 70-75 and when I got off the highway is when it happened.

From what I have searched, I guess there is a TSB on this, but I can't find it. The truck is no longer under warranty, so I have a feeling this is going to be expensive, I just want to cut down on the find and seek meathod most dealers use to rack up the cost a bit. Does anyone know the TSB number so I can print it out and be a little more informed when I take it in.

Thanks,

It's going to be the speedo (cluster), cable or the gear in the transmission.

Since you show speed when you're stopped, it's probably the speedo, as gone4x4 stated.

I had the same problem a few months back, and they replaced my cluster. I have the problem again and have a cluster on order.

Its the cluster for sure. A good smack on top of the dash may get to go down..

Gone, I need to get my vin. You would think that Ford knowing that this is an issue, and this happening so much, they might issue a good will recall to fix the problem. Watch, I'll pay tons of cash and get the new cluster in and then in 6 months Ford will issue a recall, too late for me. Go figure.......

What is the damage on a new cluster, and what all do they need to order the thing?

On the Superduty, the speed is taken from the rear ABS sensor on the top of the differential.

Sounds like the speedo itself. You might try a used one from a junkyard, if you can find it.

One thing about "I'll fix it myself, only to have Ford recall it later", if they DO recall it afterwards, or there's a "program" for it, you can get reimbursed for your costs

Recalls usually (only?) happen for safety reasons.

Exactly... usually when the diff sensor goes bad, the speedo goes to zero.

This is something different.

If it were me, I'd take the cluster out and start probing it
