1 tank

The previous owner of my 86 6.9 had the secondary fuel tank removed(rear tank). The Ford dealer's diagnostic says I need an IP, lift pump and O rings which I am in the process of replacing. Is there a chance that the plumbing for the second tank could be drawing in air as well? (The tank is gone, but the plumbing is still there.) And if so, what is the best method to stop this? Thanks.

Plug the FSV fuel selector valve holes........ but first check the water separator and drain line on the firewall. Known problem.....just pull the ring and drain the water then plug the hole with a 3/8 bolt....... PS drain off the asphalt....... diesel eats it.......

I concur with PLC7.3, especially on the OE water seperater. I've had to replace three of them in 20 years for air leaks. They are a PITA to diagnose, too.... though after a while you learn to just go there first. Buy another brand/style according to your budget. I've had air leak problems four times in 20 years of ownership. Once was a lift pump... and that's a story in itself... and the other two were the water seperators.
Boy, I couldn't live without both tanks.
