The tach jumps up and down at low rpm's, some times it will stop running, the service dept doesnt have a clue.
The last time I had it in the told me the cable that hooks up to the cumputer is bad so they ordered a new one that is on back order for over 1 month.
Anybody have this happen to them?
Sounds similiar to my issue of both or either speedo or tach not reading correctly. The fix is to replace the instrument cluster. Supposedly, there is a TSB out on this according to someone in the 6.0 forum. Mine is on back order till late Feb, probably at the earlist. The service dept didn't even question it once they saw the speedo at about 50 with the truck in park! I could have waited for it, they called by the time the courtesty driver got me home.
I just hope its not a recurring problem, after warranty.
HMMM, sounds just like what I had with my 2000 7.3 - tach jumping all over the place. I pulled the dash and cleaned all contacts for gauges / wiring. I also did the same for under hood connections. Problem solved. Your mileage may vary but if they have the same type of connections to the dash as mine, it may be worth trying this.
