smoke is pretty normal right after injector install. there is alot of excess oil to burn out of the exhuast and cylinders. it should clear up after 20 miles or so.
hydro lock damage can be anything from a bent rod which will eventually break, a broken rod right away, blown head gasket from the fluid pushing out the gasket.

did the engine hit fluid while cranking?
I am not sure, I did the draining procedure , bumped the engine witn fuse#9 out and the injector and the glow plug out. the engine had a little trouble turning over but one of my battery cables was loose so I tightened the cable took out the glow plug bumped it again(fuse out) to make sure all the fluid was out and I didn't have any problems after that. The engine sounds good, It ran for a while and the temp was ok. The smoke has gotten better, only under hard acceleration now. I am prob being paranoid.
yeah unless you had really had the engine cranking fast then it just plain stopped and had to pull the injectors back out to get the fluid out then put it all back together you didn't hurt any thing. I have had to pull injectors back out before cause I didn't get enough oil out. luckily I was bumping the engine over and not cranking it right up.
