going to shorten the f150 but not exactly sure on how much we want to go. anyone know the stock wheelbase on a long bed reg cab? how much would we be shortening it to use a stock bko rear driveshaft 78-79 version? we're going to tube it and run a fuel cell. still wanting to be able to fit the 450r or blaster on the back, so we dont want to go to teribly short, we just want to be able to use stock parts off of things for ease of finding new ones when we bash this one out. gonna flip the shackles, and drop the coil towers on it, so Ill be sure to get plenty of pics along the way.
what year? On my 1990 F150 s/c the measurements along the first body line up from the bottom, the one that comes out just below the tail light, measures 22" from the start of the box to the wheel opening, and 28" from the wheel opening to the back.
The '90 bronco measures 15.5" from the door jam to the wheel opening and 23" from the wheel opening to the back. So youre looking at shortening it 6"-7" ahead of the axle.
I forgot to mention, and it occurred to me that the measurements I gave you were from a shortbox truck....but if you measure your long box Ill go measure the length of my short box, subtract the difference, then subtract the 6-7" difference between the s/b and bko.
May work better in the mud but the rocks will EAT your undercarage unless you are lifted to beat the band. Also some of the roads around here force my bronc into 4 or 5 point switchbacks. would not dream of that road with 145" wheelbase.
I'll put it like this, just pretend you have a big ****, you just have to know how to shake it things like cutting brakes and rear steer and skid plates in the right places will do wonders, my truck isn't any longer over all than your typical reg cab long box, and i've learned how to deall with the long wheelbase, also some of them tricky steep ledges a long wb is a life saver.
