I have no idea if this will work or have different distributers to compare but Me thinking is this. According to this artical( I Dont know how accurate it is so I am just throwing this out) http://home.cfl.rr.com/fatrichard/duraspark/eec.htm that the base plates(point plate, and the elc ing plate) are the same in v8 dizzys. So if you took the later modle y block dist( maybe 64 guessing??) and took the guts from a dura spark v8 dizzy and combinded the two you could convert to duraspark. Like i said before I dont know just thought I would throw it out. If you look at the artical at the begining you can kind of see what I am talking about. it looks as if you swap just the plate and eletric pick up stuff. If i had both types of the dizzys out this would be easy to see but I dont so If anyone want to research this go for it.
Can any one look up the plate number and or know the sizes? Like compare the plate from a y block to a 302 or a 390) Or the size of the y block dizzy shaft at the top?(what I am thinking is you could compair shaft sizes to other ford dizzys like fe, 460, 302, 351w, 351/400 mod, and then use the Armature out of which ever one is the same size, and then the base plate)
You are correct! It has been done many times. The only modification is to take the hole that the ground wire exits and slot it out the top of the housing. Any V-8 Duraspark distributor will work.(not sure about y-block as I have never messed with one, but I have done it with FE and windsor motors)
