Hello all.
I put a 1990 351W in my ranger that was efi at one point in time before i got it. I have none of the efi parts and have no desire to source all the parts. It came with a Edelbrock performer 4bbl intake so im going carb. Now my question is that im looking for a new dizzy with vac. adv. and i found lots on ebay for a great price but it statesThis distributor is to used on 351W blocks that were originally carbureted. 351W engines that were fuel injected will not allow the use of this distributor. The fuel injected blocks use a longer shaft distributor. Be sure of the type block you have before purchasing. (FORD 351W WINDSOR SMALL BASE HEI DISTRIBUTOR RED 6710-R | eBay heres a link to it) Now every place i search says to put an earlier dizzy in with no problems but im just wanting to get all my bases covered before i commit to buying.
Odd, first I've ever heard of it. Then again I've never torn down an EFI 351W. I reckon you could always go to Napa or something and ask to see a dizzy from an '81 and a '90 351W and see if the shaft/gear is different.
The factory Duraspark II setup is pretty hard to beat, you might look into that too.
i droped one in my 88 when i switched it to a carb never had any issues i bought if off ebay a hei 1 wire hook up works good havent had any problems i think it cost me less then 50 buks with shipping
Ok thanks ya ill prob go down to napa and see if i can look at them. Ya i just want to get this thing running first and $50 didnt sound to bad to get me going and i could upgrade in the future. thanks alot guys
I bought that ebay dizzy and it worked great. No difference in length from what ive seen. Now as for the GM hei adapted ford dizzy, id steer clear. Im on my third one now. First one the mech. advance bearings gave out after 2 days of driving and stuck at full advance. 2nd and 3rd leaked oil through the base into the rotor. Im currently gathering stuff to do a duraspark setup for reliability.
