The internet sales route when i went looking, they quoted a good fair price then when you went down you looked at the contract and they added an additonal $500 dealer fee to the contract. I asked what this was and it was additonal profit for the dealer. So i asked why did they tell me the internet price and try and deliver with the $500 adder. They would not even take it off. Hence to say I walked out, went to another dealer and used the Xplan process with rebates.
96f150 - may I suggest you go to KBB before buying out the lease. You may find out the buyout will put you upside down. It seems to me these tucks have a fairly steep depreciation curve in the first 2.5 years.
I have found that dealers are willing to deal if you buy, however if you are leasing, they will only calculate the monthly payment off of the MSRP -- they do not seem to budge for leasing these days. Perhaps the days of good lease deals are over. I do not know why. Also, I have encounterd resistence after I mentioned I was planning on ordering a truck with exactly what I wanted. They would of course rather sell you something off their lot, as ordering has certain costs and risks associated with it that something on their lot does not.
MMM My lease just ran out on my 02 F-250 4x4. When back to my dealer and lease a 07 f-150 4x4 for x-plan plus all rebates. Also in my area the are running a 1999 down and 249 (plus tax) a month lease for a 07 F-150 4x4. i think I got a pretty good deal, I'm paying appx $80 less on this lease compare to the old lease (less mileage is one reason). Another plus is the wife likes this truck better.
How does custom ordering a truck cost the dealer more? It hits their lot, and it's gone. They don't have to pay interest on it, they don't have to worry about any insurance claims like they might if it sat on the lot, and they don't have to wash it or knock snow off of it. They do get to collect the hold back, which is the name of the game.
They order yours the same way they order anything for their stock, some semi-computer literate dude in the back probably just punches it in and it's done. (He's the same guy that doesn't really know what is possible to order until you push him to look a little closer at the computer.)
The only risk I see for them is that you may walk away after the order is placed, but that's where a down payment comes in. Hesitancy to order would be a cue to find another dealer in my opinion.
I suspect Ford is hurting so bad, corprate is pushing the dealers to sell at MSRP. Shoot if you are going to do that go buy yourself one of those new Tundras.
customer relations lady called two times a day all last week telling me about all the good deals and rebates wanted me to come running in i am very busy trying to make a delivery date on a job so dont really have the time for the dog and pony show tried to talk to a salesman on the phone a couple of times and got the runaround very frustrating maybe if i make an apperance they will finally stop acting like the fools they are thank you all for letting me share my misadventures

Same here. I bit and went down last Friday. They had exactly 3 trucks for me to look at. No supercabs, no supercrews, nothing I wanted. Then they offered my $13500 for my 04 Scab 4x4 with 20K miles on it.
I laughed at them and said I'd never be back....and I meant it.
Maztool, I'm right there with you.
I have been trying to buy a new truck for about 4 weeks now. Every time I get close to buying or ordering a new truck they come up with something different or change the deal. One dealership even tried to talk me out of ordering a new one. I QUIT!!! Maybe it's time to switch brands!!! It is no wonder that Ford is 12 billion dollars in the hole. I don't think they have any dealers (at least in my area) that want to sell a truck. I know I'm venting a little bit but all that I can get out of them is X-plan + $3000 rebate. They will not budge another dime. I did find a truck about 4 hours away that is very close to what I'm looking for and he said that he would drop another $250 but that's it. The X-plan is about .4% below invoice which on a truck with an invoice price around $35.000 equals about $65.00 below invoice price. I hope you have better luck than I have.
That doesnt seem unreasonable. Going lower is exactly WHY they are 12B in the hole. Try and get that on a Toyota. Now the OP seems to have a legitimate gripe. Most dealers will happily sell anything for invoice-ish - rebates. Keep looking, and I would not go to ANY dealer, call and talk to their internet or fleet sales guy.
just an update bought an 05 supercrew 4x4 xlt with 20k miles tow package green and silver it was 14k off the msrp shopped for intrest and got a great rate don't know if it was the greatest deal but i'm happy and the best thing no more lease!!! bed liner and cover also
Pricing was not an issue with Ford it was the loss of volume. Ford knows no one will pay MSRP, hence the reason for more incentives to buy. In this case the dealer is optimizing his profit. I would bet he will change his mind when the 1st qtr sales start to look dismal. Ford does not dictate to the dealer to sell at a certian price, Ford does not get anyhting over the agreed to price it sells to the dealer. A dealer selling at MSRP does not translate into anymore money for Ford. Hence the reason they offer hold back and volume kickbacks and spifs to the dealer. To move more volume and help make up for those deals that come in at a low margin for the dealer. This is why some dealers will sell under dealer cost.
Internet deals usually include a hard line item of dealer profit somewhere in the $500 to $750 range. On a face to face deal you can sometimes get that line item waived. Thisis why XPLAn is so good, this line item is automatically waived and sold for a few % points above e Ford emplyee cost.
Don't kid yourself, there are commisions involved with an internet deal. Dealers change their compensation plans on a regular basis, sometines it's a fixed commision to the sales rep or internt salesperson, and sometimes is a % of the sale etc.. It all depends on how sales are going!

I agree with you. I think it is a satisfactory deal, everyone can do a little better but thats not the point. I went in and ordered the truck based on the info that was given to me and was satisfied with it. Then all of a sudden the things that we talked about the past three times I was in there, changed again. Thats when I canceled the order and walked out. The saleman called me later that night and tried to smooth things over and said that he would have something for me in a couple days and thats been over three weeks ago with no contact, that doesn't seem to me to be very interested in selling trucks. Every time I went, the deal or parts there of seemed to change to the dealers favor. Then, thats why I went to a different dealer with the same order for a new truck and he really made me feel like I would have to make him order that truck because he didn't think it was a good idea! Go figure that one!!
Oh, by the way, I did go look at the Toyotas but I really can't see myself driving one of those "trucks" when the opportunity is there to have a real one.
