My wife's ride (Mazda Tribute AKA Ford Escape) has a airbag lamp that was on solid this morning, and now is flashing. I'll admit that I was too lazy to search through the posts to find anything on this. I was hoping that I could get some input from ya'all.
Check the yellow connectors under the seats, particularly the passenger seat. Sometimes they make a poor connection which causes increased resistance, which will set a code. These are for the "pretensioners"-- built into the seat belt receptacle designed to tighten the belt in the event of an accident.
First, disconnect the battery.. wait ten minutes. then disconnect each connector and look for loose terminals, corrosion, spilled soda, etc... clean it all up and spray some electrical contact cleaner spray in there. Then plug back in, rehook battery, and see if the light stays off.
If it keeps happening, ford has new pretensioners available that have new connectors to eliminate this problem, unfortunately they are very expensive. Another thing you might could do is eliminate the connectors all together and solder the wires together, but I'm not sure of the legalities of doing this.
And I for sure wouldn't go to that extreme a measure without having the codes pulled and properly diagnosed (there are many other things that can set this light, I was just giving you one of the more common causes)... good luck!
my sister's escape had the passenger air bag light flash on and off for no apparent reason. I found a phone book under the seat , I removed the book, and I disconnected and reconnnected all of the yellow connectors under the seat to make sure they were tightly closed. After that it never had any more issues. Make sure you don't have anything stored under the seats and try reconnecting all of the airbag connectors that are under both seats.

I'll be... My Wife has a ton of stuff in her Tribute. I'll just bet...
Just think.. we may have just saves you $150 in diagnostic fees.. and god only knows how many hundreds in repairs.. all because a whole library of romance novels was whipping around under those seats
