JUST DID THIS MODIFICATION TO MY 90 BRONCO 302 SEEMS TO RUN
COOLER AND BETTER THROTTLE RESPONSE CONNECTED TWO LINE FROM TB TOGETHER AND CAPPED OFF PORTS ON TB
Curtis,
I plan on doing this mod this coming weekend, as I was cleaning the TB and had to replace the little coolant hose. We sure don't need to worry about freezing here in New Orleans, do we?
Instead of just disconnecting it all together how about putting in a valve. That way you can turn it on in the winter (for us northerners) and turn it off in the summer. I am going to look around and see what I can find for a valve and modify mine ASAP.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 08-Aug-02 AT 05:23 PM (EST)]no not hardly, did you see the response about the shops i left for you in the section about the front wheel bearings? hope that might help some. have you bought a hitch for your bronco? im in the market for one been searching ebay, no luck yet trying to find one at a good price. by the way went to uhual on the expressway near oakwood mall. dont go there either the 2 enormus women didnt even acknowledge we were even there and one walked out with a single word. going to send negative feedback to the head of the company. it is getting harder to find any good customer service any more on the west bank. one last tthing what did you use and how did you clean the throttle body. did you have the engine running or not? cans say dont but that stuff has to go some where.
Curtis,
To clean my TB I used STP Throttle Body Cleaner. I read somewhere that we shouldn't use regular carb cleaner but use one specifically for TBs, as carb cleaner will remove a protective coating on the butterflies and shaft, possibly causing them not to seat correctly or something. I took off the TB, took to the outside with degreaser and a scrub brush, and then cleaned the inside with the STP and shop towels. Mine was pretty grimy, and now it feels like it has more freedom of movement.
great tip. just did this yesterday, boy howdy its get off the line a whole lot better and seems to run better now. this engine has high miles 110,000. probably the best mod for 4.00$ i've ever done. thanks for the tips from everyone who responded.
If I remember correctly from my 5.0 Mustang days this is called the egr spacer and it is there to do the opposite of what you are thinking it is actually removing the heat from the EGR gas that is being returned to the engine. Removing it will only make things hotter. Not a good move folks.
The lines that these people are talking about are the lines to the Throttle body that is located between the upper intake and the fresh air intake tubes only on fuel injected trucks. The EGR valves that I have seen on EFI engines have not been cooled by a cooler plate under them.
Chris
I did the coolant line removal on my throttle body, and it does make a difference. As for the EGR heat, I took care of that one too. I removed the pipe running from the exhaust to the EGR valve and inserted a metal disc into the flare nut. I reinstalled the flare nut without the pipe on both side of where the pipe used to run. One end on my 351W is the EGR valve side, and the other is from the front side of the passenger manifold. This helps with the top end, plus all the EGR valves and vaccum lines are still in the same place to fool the computer. It sees the EGR valve open up, but nothing ever happens on the airflow side of things.
Together, both of these make a good throttle response mod. I notice much better throttle response and top end.
