Heater/AC Control Unit?
I have been having problems with mine, as some times it will not blow anything. I can hear the vacuum lines switching, but it doesnt respond. If i jiggle it, sometimes it will kick in and start blowing air. If anybody knows a way to improve this let me know.
Also if you know of a place where I could find this part, that would be great. I have been looking all over the place with no luck. (BroncoGraveyord, Blue Oval, etc..)
Thanks for the help!!
Nobody anywhere stocks these anymore.
They are also obsolete at Ford.
I did have my buddy at the parts counter run a few about a month or two ago.
There is one avaliable for the 1984 through 1986 if you have two tanks and a 302 V8.
Part Number: E4TZ-19980-M They showed only one avaliable. And that was two months ago though.
Part Number: E4TZ-19980-N Single tank, is not avaliable.
The part is very year and application dependant.
Need the Engine, year, and if you have two tanks, as well as if you have A/C or not.
Here are the diagrams for the switches and control for a truck with A/C.
!980-1982, 1983 different but simular.

1984-1986

If you notice there is a electrical switch located on the function control lever that turns the fan and the A/C compressor on respectfully. This should be a serviceable part of the control and is what is most likely wrong with yours by the description you have given. The switch is servicable seperately on earlier models but I am not sure on these, or the one you have.
It may also be a loose or corroded electrical connection either at the fan speed switch or the fan and compressor power on off switch.
Your only other hope is to scrounge the wrecking yards for the control.
hope this helps.
I have the 1983, 351 Windsor, Single Tank, With A/C.
I have found a 1992 with A/C and dual tanks. Do you think I might be able to hook this up, and just not run the dual tanks??
It is just very annoying having to jiggle the selector to get it to blow. I think the problem is in the control unit itself, so if anybody has ever went in a fixed this kinda problem without replacing the entire unit, that might be of help. I was think of spreading some electrical grease on the slider arm to see if that helps any.
Let me know what you think.
Thanks
E3TZ-19980-D .. 1983 F100/350 Only
I doubt the 1992 will work.
