We had two crap cars. a '96 taurus and an '00 sable - both nice cars, but spent more time in the shop than being driven. Also the reason my mom won't buy another Ford.
But I don't think they had a reputation so bad that it would be a bad idea to use the nameplate on a new and improved version.
