This is my first post since finding FTE about 15 months ago ago. The site provided me with much valuable information in my search for a truck and has helped a lot after I purchased the beast about a year ago. Thanks!
Okay, here goes...I was driving on a winding highway today at about 50mph when all of a sudden all heck broke lose in my front end. The truck began to shudder and buck and pull really hard to the left (toward two lanes of oncoming traffic). I was able to gain enough control and slow to the side of the road. I could find nothing out of the ordinary upon visual inspection. I was considering limping home but called for a tow to our local shop. We took a look underneath and discovered the bracket that mounts the right side of the axle to the frame had shattered (two sheared bolts and the bracket looks to be in more than 4 pieces). I have searched a couple sites for the part name and number but without a diagram I am not sure about the parts listed (i.e. Pivot Bracket). Any suggestions would be appreciated.
P.S. I have our local boneyard looking for a Dana 60...I say maybe, wife says maybe not.

Reason: Wrong forum...mine's a 1997
I think you are talking about the axle pivot braket. If you have to change this item you might be better looking to aftermarket and get a stronger one. Rancho and other companies will make them.
Thanks for the replies. I am sure it's not the spring shackle. The bracket actually bolts (or used to) to the cross member under the motor. Axle pivot bracket sounds right. However, being my first post I got stage fright and posted to the '99 and up forum. Mine's a 1997 F250 OBS...TTB.
My best wishes for your son Hoseman.
Oh, the bracket that bolts to the crosmember with one bolt, and to the frame with two bolts, on the left framerail, near the pitman arm, its termed Panhard Rod Bracket

no, he's talking about the axle pivot bracket. the bracket that hangs down from the engine crossmember on TTB axle trucks and thats what the pass side axle pivots from. the driver side pivots from a second bracket but right next to it.
why would a 250 with ttb need a trac bar (or panhard bar)?

Hey Cutts - Whose truck is that in the picture? That thing is incredibly clean! Is that a freeshly rebuilt engine? I have never seen such a clean beast before.

Thanks for the link. That's it. I got the part number from Ford but my truck's gonna be down for a couple more days. Honey do list hare I come...or maybe I'll go fishing.
sounds like the axle pivot bracket. be careful you got the right part number. you have a dana 50 under there, not a dana 44. i'm not sure if that makes a difference in the bracket, but it might.

Gotcha, I wrote the post while still in shock from seeing my life flash before my eyes. My rig weighs close to 10k# and at 50mph I felt like I survived a ride on a bull. I had the dealer fax me a picture for Ford part # F7TZ3B178AA. Bad pic but I think it's correct. Confirmation from anybody?
