Goin' Backwards

All the progress I was having with my 56 project and now it's goin' backwards: The new Power Rack and Pinion from CPP has stripped threads where the return line attaches. It couldn't handle 20 Ft Pounds of torque. Maybe a factory reject/maybe I can exchange it for anuttern' , maybe I'll just have to buy another brand new one. 2ndly, I just discovered that the Rear End (that no one on here could identify) has a bent axle. Guess I'll try to find a 9". Just had to vent. Time for a beer and to throw more money at it.

Thats a real bummer! Some days go like that. Clean up the tools, close up the shop, grab some frosty beverages and try again another day

It'll get better

Great advice! I've done that many times. I don't even bother to clean the tools. I leave everything right where it is and walk out. I've found that when Murphy's Law starts running amuck it's not going to get better that day so get out while you can and before you do any other damage to your truck or yourself!

GOOD FOR YOU! There's no telling what other disasters you might have averted...

Sounds familiar - happenend to me right before Christmas while working on brake lines. I walked out with beer in hand and left the tools laying where they last rested.

Now, I am on another project, kids bathroom remodel, and can't wait to get my garage back from the painted doors and tinker again; errr, fix what broke on me.

Located a 9" from a 1964 F100 today about 12 miles away....will prolly get it. Entered the garage again tonight for 45 minutes.....removed the Mystery Rear End. (See thread "Name That Rear" by me). Altho I am disassembling; it doesn't feel like I'm goin' backwards. Thanks for the support.

hey cuz....
sorry to hear about your backsliding... but it's all part of it... You know me... I'm the poster child for re-dos. I guess I've redone more than most folks 'round here have.

Most of it was on purpose but some not... you just have to change your mind.... adjust your plan sometimes... your solution is the best plan... walk away... have a brew or a glass of sweet tea... maybe scribble some notes on a napkin then forge ahead... good luck cuz.... it's all gonna come together...

jniolon. I see that you are from Alabama. Hello neighbor. I am from North Georgia. I also see that you mentioned sweet tea. I wonder how many people here don't know what that is. Hell, I was in Tennesee one time and mentioned sweet tea and the waitress looked at me like I had three heads.

A friend of mine once said, " If ya have mechanical problems with your vehicle; just throw money at it....them problems will go away". And that's what I'm doing: Junk yard 9" $200 3rd member w/ 2.50 gears at swap meet $40 new bearings, set pinion crush etc $355 new Axle bearings $25 new axle gaskets .....it's goin' together.......oh....new brake shoes $22 new Brake cylinders forget$.....gee ., all I need now is to have the driveshaft lengthened. One thing about it......I won't have to worry about the rear end !

Hey Cuz...

good news... there's nothing like loading up your Visa to unload your worried mind... always seems to works for me anyway... glad you're back on track..

thendrix... yep, I'm just outside of B'ham. I was in your state yesterday. Not the pretty part where you live but down in that demolition derby they call Atlanta... That place makes Talledega look like a easy weekend cruise.
Was trying to get up a trip to Savannah next week but the weather, my time and my money won't come together... that is an EXPENSIVE town. I can't imagine Tn not knowing what sweet tea is... must have been up in the northern corner around Missouri or Illinois where the yankee influence has been bred in.
