time for some new brakes, have any of you guys used the Hawk pads and cyrogenic treated rotors? how do they wear and are they worth the money,in your opinion?
The fronts are great! They are going on the back when I need them. No signs of warpage and stops are smooth and solid. The stopping power when braking w/ a 2500# trailer with no brakes is amazing.
I have been eyeing the Cryo's and hawk pads but all these other dang mods keep getting in the way. From what i heard you will feel like you didnt have brakes before.
I put a set of Frozen Powerslots and hawk Superduty pads on the front of the 2000 dually, and it really helped it, its doing great still. I would have put PS's on the rear as well but they do not make a dually rear rotor, so i went with a Brembo replacement. When i get around to it, im going to put 4 Frozen powerslots and Hawk LTS pads (daily driving, light towing, 90% of the towing applications out there) on my truck. Would have looked good showing through those 20" wheels.

I just ordered a set of the front cryo'd Powerslot with Hawk LTS brake pads for my 99 PSD. I went through Tirerack that was the cheapest price I found. I cant wait to get them and get them put on. Next is the rear Powerslots.
Just don't order the Baer Eradispeed rotors, even though the have a 3 year free replacement warranty against warp/crack, READ CAREFULLY: ALTHOUGH THEY HAVE A PART NUMBER FOR A F-250/350 THEY DO NOT FIT, THEY ARE FOR AN EXCURSION, AND THE HUB FLANGE DOES NOT SEAT ON A SD TRUCK. Unfortunatley after the original expenditure, and the eminent failure of these rotors I am now back to stock replacements (had to get truck going, could not wait for the brown delivery truck)
My loss is your gain in knowledge.

its late and i am a littel confused by what you said here. are you saying that you have the PS rotors in the front and are going to move them to the rear when the rears need reaplcing? Are the front rotors the same as the rears? i may just be missing something that i am unsure about!!
strokin, what are Frozen power slots? i have never heard of this before. please pardon my ignorance i just have never heard of that!
See post above, research them, although they did not work for my truck they may be great for your EX. they are about the same price as the baers and also the Power slot rotors

The rear rotors for the SWR are very different than the front rotors. The front brakes take 70% or more of the ware plus my factory rotors were warped. Not that noticable empty but watch out when going downhill while towing something! It would almost jerk the wheel out of your hands.
I just replaced the fronts since the rears still had plenty of meat and were working fine (except for the lesser braking power). I figure that when the LTS pads ware down on the front, it will be time for new pads and rotors on the rear.
EDIT: Frozen (cryoed) rotors are put in a bath of liquid nitrogen (or something really cold) that changes the metal at a molecular level to make them harder. I think you need a degree in metalurgy to understand and explain it well.....
The Powerslot Cyro'ed rotors and Hawk pads will be the best non HP mod you can make to your truck. better stops, no fade and no warpage either!! Check with Sharvey here on the site about them for a user refferral. Call us Monday if you have any questions on them too!!

Mark @ DPPI
One of these days Mark will remember to call me Stewart.
After much research here and at TDS, I found many positive testimonials about the cryo treated Powerslots. I needed something because the front brakes on my wife's 4x4 Excursion would shimmy/vibrate just from daily driving. Hook up the horse trailer or drive down a steep grade and the brake pedal would pulsate so hard, it almost felt like it was bouncing under our foot.
I had the OEM rotors turned a total of three times within 24 months, but the problem would be back within a tankful of gas. I needed a permanent solution.
There are a bunch of people who have posted they are very satisfied with the cryo Powerslots rotors/Hawk LTS pad combination, and that their warped rotor problem seems to be permanently solved.
I guess ART has a cryo treated rotor that some have used also, and are happy with. I keep pushing Mark at DPPI because he price matched the best price I could find on the 'net, plus he has excellent customer service.
I know that this thread kind of died out....BUT.....
I (at least) need new pads........
This is what I've got:
2000 Ford F250 4X4 psd crew-cab short-bed......73000 miles.....
-Most of the weight is ON the truck (loads of rock or wood on the bed.....a 2000+lb camper on the truck (slide-in-camper...NOT a trailer))......so brake-assist trailers are not a factor.
Looking for a BEEFY braking system, and willing to replace the rotors as well as the pads.....(don't know if anyone recommends changing the calipers, or if that would help).....
Sooooo....in y'all's experience...with the truck package I've got....with the load-distribution I've described....and keeping with companies sponsoring FTE.....do you recommend (it's been mentioned here already)
Hawk pads with powerslot cryo'd (cryogenic?) rotors?........
Good, solid stopping power for a (loaded) 9000 to 10000lb truck is paramount, guys......I can deal with a trailer later, but for now, weight ON the truck.....
