I have a 2005 6L F250. My dealer sticker does not make mention of the block heater. I need to install one for these cold Alaska nights. I thought I read a while back that all F 250/350 had the heaters on them but I may only need the cord? Can anyone help?
Go to International and buy a cord fot a vt365 thats what they call the engine. The heater is installed in the block at the factory, right side just above the starter. If you buy the cord from Ford it cost more but is made for the truck and will make for a cleaner install.
Go crawl under the truck and look above the starter, you just need the wire and to run it in and plug into the plug on the block. Get it at and International dealer and then go back to ford and tell them thanks for trying to screw you out of 300 bucks and explain how that doesnt make for a great relationship and your now inclined to do all your maintance yourself. I would be pissed.
Every single 6.0 has the block heater, they only attach the cord on those ordered or for certain states and provinces.
wow, $300 to install the cord? They quoted me $85 for the cord and an hour labor to install. I opted to buy the cord and install myself which can be gotten a lot cheaper but I wanted to get it done with then so I paid more. Go back and have them open the heater cord package and read right under the service procedure where it says all 6.0L diesel engines come with the element installed. It's not that hard of an install to do. I did it laying on frozen pavement outdoors in 11 degrees. Stick your hand right up above the starter and there it is. You won't be able to see it without a mirror but you can easily feel it. Round, threaded and two pins. Make sure to clean it up a bit with some alcohol before plugging it in.
You can buy the wire assembly for the block heater that the ford dealer would charge you for $70.00+
Go to www.Powerstrokeshop.com. Part # 1C3Z6B018AA-$48.60
Mine is being shipped to me right now
yes, I too had the same questions and I spoke with the tech department at my dealers where I just purchased a 2007 F-250 and he stated the same thing, we will need to purchase the wire harness and route it ourselves or have them do it. Same price $70.00 and some change for the part and about $112.00 for the whole install.
I had the install and then when and bought the gasket sealed electrical 3prong oulet at Bass Pro and drilled and mounted on my front bumper...looks clean and sano
I have both the 06 and 07 super duty books that the dealers give out and it states "Engine Block heater - (Standard in 10 cold weather states)"
I believe that 2005 and earlier came standard with the block heater on the diesels.
When I ordered my 05 truck it was not standard as my 01 was . The dealer told me they quit making it standard in 05 and had to be ordered on any truck .
What are the 10 states that it says are Standard ?
I'm not saying your wrong but thats what I was told by Ford and I had to order my cord.

So I guess 2004 and earlier came standard....
They do not give the list in the books, but I believe they are all the Northern most states.
I would guess they were these states, but just guessing.
Alaska
Washington
Montanna
North Dakota
Minnesota
Wisconsin
Michigan
Idaho
New York
Maine
There was another post that someone posted the 10 states, but not sure they were the list from Ford.
For those that are interested I checked to see what it was drawing before I left today. Voltage was at 118.4, watts hovered mostly between 948 and 950 and every now and then down to 935. So pretty close to 8 amp draw.
