I understand that these computers are electronic shift- is there anyway to get the affect of "manual shift" out these like putting a manual valve body in an old C6? Also, do they come with lockup converters?
I do NOT know whether you can get manual shifting. I would assume either you could reprogram the computer or get a shift kit that allows manual shifting. Many of those kits require some rework of the valve body.
or at least something to keep it from shifting out of OD all the time while hauling. The truck has enough power to pull but it likes to downshift.
Towing anything more than a light load in OD does nothing more than bog down the motor, put unnecessary wear on your motor and drive train, and shorten the life of your truck. If the transmission is downshifting, it's for a reason.
Think about this, if you're towing a load in OD, and you're at half-throttle or better, are you really using less fuel than towing in third gear at a quarter throttle or less?
LOL not trying at all to be rude, but I don't need a driving lesson. This is at highway speeds with an empty trailer (2100 lbs) truck shouldn't downshift to move in to passing lane and pass. The company V6 dodge pulls the same trailer and doesn't even downshift. So you think a PSD should? Not even getting on it. truck has more than enough power and with the 4.10s it's well into it's power range at 65+. To me, I would rather save my tranny the extra shifting and use the engine's ample power to do what it should. That to me would save excess wear, etc.
Well, depending on the year you could buy an electronic programmer that will alter the shift points and all you to control when the transmission shifts. You didn't give much info in the first post about what engine, year, etc the truck was.
Sorry bout that- I was more asking a general q cuz it's not my truck, but the one that got me thinking about it is a 96 250 2wd psd auto(obviously lol). Thanks for your help! Do you know of any companies specifically that mfg tranny controllers, and are you in full control of the shift point (ie doesn't shift until you shift it)?
we can help you out with a box that lets you push botton shift the e4od along with a lot of nice goodies for inside of the trans. check out our web site for more information
