Does anybody know where I can pick up a cap that goes over the plug on my engine block heater cord? We've had snow here recently and when I drive the truck around, the plug gets covered with slush. When I go to plug it in it's covered with slush (I clean the plug off of course but its still wet) and blows the gfci on the plug in. Is there a cap out there for the plug?
Not sure where to get a replacement cap. Maybe at a junkyard for a buck or two? Or you could just put one of those orange 3-way plugs on it to serve as a "cap" until you need to plug it in.
You can go to and electrical supply store, or maybe Lowe's or Home Depot, and get a cap for it. Or you can mount a MARINCO On-Board Charger Inlet (part number 150BBI). Its normally used to feed a 12v battery charger through a panel somewhere on a boat, but works just as well to power our block heaters. You can mount it in the bumper, on a bracket, through the fender, just about anywhere you want to. With it there is no more fishing the plug out from under the truck.
All the above are viable options. I did the Marinco and love it. Kinda struggled with the idea of cutting a hole in a perfectly good chrome bumper, but did it any way. Went very smooth with 1-7/8" hole saw and a little patience.
Unplug it in the morning and snap the rubber cap over the plug opening and good to go! Looks good too.
One of these days I'll have to get off my a** and take some digital photos.
