Battery cable question

I need some long custom made battery cables. Any idea where I can order some or can I use welding cable? Thanks for any help.

I've taken my old ones to the parts house and they can cut you new ones on the spot.

Also any tractor/farm implement company can make them up any lenght or size that you need.

welding cable works fine if you have it on hand

Thanks for the replies. Being in NJ, we don't have any tractor/farm supply around here. It seems like all we have is houses. I guess I will try the welding cable. Is it size for size or does the welding cable have to be larger? I am moving both batteries back near the rear of the truck. I need about 17' cables.

i bought 10 feet of 2 gauge battery cable for 1.88 a foot and then a couple of ends for $5 at advance auto

The farther away you move the batteries from the starter, the thicker the gauge cable you should use. I can't give you exact sizes, but I can tell you that if you try to pull a bunch of amps through a cable too thin, it will heat up. Might not burst into flames immediately, but over time, it will cause accellerated hardening of the insulation and subsequent problems.
