My computer hangs when browsing after what seems about 20 minutes or so. This is under Firefox and I have gone back to an older build and it still hangs. I don't know if it will under IE6 as I use Firefox 98% of the time. Here is the error listed under the event viewer: Event Type: Error

firefox did the same thing on the old dell, and this new gateway/emachines. no matter what i do, firefox hangs up and then locks up. so i stopped using it, and now use Internet Explorer 6.0
no more problems.
Are you running XP? alot of the looking around online I did seemed to indicate this was a problem with COM+ on windows 2000 and 2000 server running IIS..
If you are running 2000, you might check this out:
As per Microsoft: "This problem occurs because marshaling of the context for the new object fails. Marshaling fails because the allocated buffer size is too small. Retry logic is implemented in the COM+ code. However, the Visual Basic 6.0 debug activator fails when the first marshaling try fails".

I'd say go with IE
If this is the case, you can get the MS hotfix here:
The thing about it is, I really haven't had any problems up until of late. I did research online about Com+ services and VSS services and read enough info to say that I could disable Com+, which I did. I also disabled VSS and will see how that goes.
I have removed Windows Defender and run Spybot on a regular basis. I use ZoneAlarm for my firewall behind a Netgear router. I also run AVG Antivirus.
I dare say most of my problems popped up afte SP 2 was installed. I had to install it to keep my router working per Netgear's troubleshooter.
I browse this forum using IE 6 only because Firefox always hangs in this forum. It did it in the past. I have never been able to look at this site for long under FF.
I had the same type of problem with Firefox and could never fix it. I ended up changing to Avant browser and the freeze ups come few and far between now.
Just an update, I disabled a lot of services that were running and the performance of my machine has increased tremendously!
I will now try to browse this forum with FF and see what happens.
