Need help on a computer issue
some of the graphics disappear, like the return button, home button, some graphics, etc.
I have to close everything and wait a few minutes, than hit the 'Firefox' icon
on the screen to go back to the internet.
The hard drive has about 46 gigs of free space left on it.
Any ideas on what's going on?
Any help is much appreciated.
Thanks.
That being said, windows does not properly release memory (handles if you will) and if you run Explorer or Firefox long enough, you can eat up all your installed memory and virtual memory.
That being said, you probably have a virus.
If you do not have at least 1GB on a modern Windows machine and are using Thunderbird too, the most likely culprit is Thunderbird. Compress your e-mail folders.
Switch to Internet explorer...

J/K I couldn't resist with everyone saying dump IE for Firefox..
Check this out.. http://support.mozilla.com/tiki-view...7849&forumId=1
There are plenty of people having the same issue.. I googled it and came up with over 16K posts..
I don't know about Firefox, but in IE you can disabled Script debugging on the advanced option tab..
There are 2 options...
One is disable script debugging in IE and the second is disable script debugging Other..
This will stop the prompts from coming up..

My system is XP Pro.
This isue started to happen after I received the latest automatic FireFox downloads.
As for defragging, I defrag about once a week, along with running Spybot and
Avast; also once a week.
As for a complete reinstall, I can't. No software.
A friend of mine reinstalled all of the 'stuff' on my computer; plus I have no
idea on how to reinstall that kind of stuff.
I forgot to mention that I also get this message, when FireFox crashes,
which was/is quite often.
Again, thanks for all of the replies.
Sometimes this just means that you have to set your virtual memory to a higher number. (Virtual memory is the disk space that gets used when you're running low on ram.) I have done this, but it was more good luck than good planning, so I can't describe how it gets done.
You can see if your memory usage is expanding. If you right click the taskbar ( bottom of your screen) and click on task manager. It has several tabs that tell you stuff about how your system is running. (It also stays on top of everything else, but it's not too big)
One of the tabs is performance that shows your cpu and memory usage. You could start Task Manager and see if it's showing increasing memory usage as Firefox runs.
There's another tab called processes that shows how much cpu and memory each process is using. ( processes are the various working parts of your programs). You can click on the top titles to sort on the list by that parameter -- cpu, memory, etc. If you see a badly behaving process, somebody here (not me !) might know what it is.
You might also want to remove firefox and install a new copy.
Do you also do automatic windows updates? Maybe MS slipped one to you at the same time that you did your FF update.

I open the Task Manger window and
the CPU usage reads 100%, but normally it reads anywhere from 4 to 70%,
and when I hit the Processes button on the Task Manager window,
the System Idle Process reads around 80%.
Also, since the OS is not quite legit
I can only download theupdates that MS lets me.
Maybe I should uninstall Firefox and reinstall it. Wouldn't hurt.
I wonder how you set the 'virtual memory' higher?

I'll have to find out.

You set Virtual memory by doing the following..
Open Control Panel
Select System
Goto the Advanced Tab
Select Performance Settings
Select advanced tab
Select Change Virtual memory at the bottom
Virtual memory should be double what your installed memory is..
I also think there is something else going on though. I'm personally not a fan of Spybot or Avast. I know that a lot of people run them and are happy with them, but I prefer to be more vigilant with my computer activities instead of running a bunch of software that doesn't always work.
