I have geothermal, which i don't think makes a difference in this particular case. The blower in my furnace keeps "freezing" like after it runs for a while it stops blowing, but if you turn it off for a while(15 mins or so) and turn it back on it will blow again. it heats like normal once it gets going. It just started this yesterday, but I noticed when we moved in there was a bottle of lubricating oil setting on top of the furnace(been here 15 months). Do electrical motors take lubrication? is the blower motor shot? I don't have much electrical experience...so any input is greatly appreciated.
Most small blower motors have a thermal switch that will cut-out the motor if it overheats, and yes, there should be a small hole on either end of the motor for oiling.
Usually, once the motor starts "tripping-out", it will do it more and more often. I would be looking for a replacement motor.
I just called the local geothermal service place they said about $115- i won't cry over that as long as I stay warm. I checked and didn't see any oiling holes on the motor. might have them come out just for peace of mind.
Some motors have a really small plug in the oil holes. They may look like just a little "bump". If the PO had an oil can handy, it's probably time to change the motor.
