If the tach on my Edge Attitude, then my Edge A2 doesn't maintain a steady tach reading, continually jumping some 20-50 rpm...and I've experienced the "miss" stumble about 3-4 times over the last year...should I be adding a new CPS to my shopping list?
Cam Position Sensor, it is located on the front of the motor next to the crank at the 11 o'clock position. They are a troublesome gremlin on the 7.3 go to EBAY and search for CPS they can be had for about 50 bucks and get a spare for the glove box. You will need a 10mm socket to change it out.
I had dropped an mpg or so and after cleaning the EBPS regained it. Now my MAP is starting to read low (?????) and the worse it has gotten the further the mpg has dropped. The new on should be here this week and we'll see after a tank or two what the result is.
Did you get the new MAP & install it yet? Any results you can share? I'm thinking my MAP may be "iffy" but I'm not sure how to test it. Any advice on testing a MAP and results from you would be awesome! THANKS!!
I went ahead and ordered a MAP sensor off of FleaBay and changed them out. My mileage did come back some but I suspect not all the way. Since my commute is very short and we've had very cold weather I'm not sure if it is the MAP Sensor or the warmer weather that is helping. I don't have numbers yet and suspect that mileage is still down but at least not as bad. Will be driving about 1k miles over the next week. Will let you know if MAP was the problem.
Its been several months ago but I read a post about continuous mpg drop and someone said it may be the fuel pump on the frame . When it starts to go bad the efficiency drops . Anyone else see this ?
Fuel cannister o-rings. My 99.5 started leaking last week and I found Viton's rings of the same size at Graingers. 25 rings for $5.17. Part number 1BYU7. They fit perfectly. You will need a #20 Torx, and a small 1/4 air wrench to make the job easier. Be careful not to over tighten. P.S it will help to have smaller hands.
Where's the best place to order a new CPS from? I saw the same drop in mileage recently and after changing oil, fuel filter and air filter I'm no better off. I had to tow a trailer 1200 miles getting just 7MPG, it cost me a fortune. I have noticed the engine sounding a lot louder lately but its also colder.
I'm not really for sure, problem is I have not had to change mine yet (Knock on wood). I have read alot at differant forums and the vote goes to Ebay. If I need one I will go to the nearest International Dealership. Thats just me. I recently changed my glow relay and purchased it at a International shop in Detroit, It was suggested to buy it on Ebay.
I'm a firm believer that this new Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel is playing a very large part on us diesel drivers and the mileage that we are getting. One very good product that I highly suggest is a fuel conditioner called Stanadyne. I have used this product since my truck was delivered to me in 99. It also fights the harm being forced on us by this new federal fuel standards. They dont care. Another product that I use is called Sea Foam, it cleans out carbon and will not hurt the engine. I pour a can directly into my fuel filter cannister and run it directly into my injectors. My truck runs great. Stanadyne is all good for your engine, you will feel and hear the differance. Quieter, smoother, it just makes it run better. Hope this helps..Joe.
My 2 cents. I don't know how much International will charge but you can get one on e-bay for about $50-$70.
Robersmau, You don't think the CPS has anything to do with your milage do you?
A bad CPS will stall the truck. I've had two go bad since 2000. Also, don't buy aftermarket on this. I had one bad in the box and I know I am not the only person to experience that problem.
Concerning milage, I just cleaned out my EBPS tube (thanks to those who advised this) it was clogged. Milage looks better so far I will update.

I haven't had time to really get under the hood but I'm thinking I have a boost leak. I read that a boost leak can drop your mileage and since my around town mileage hasn't dropped much but my towing mileage is god awful and I'm on boost almost all the time towing..... Does anyone agree with this thinking? I may also do the EBPS cleaning
My wife's '99 F350 has suffered a big drop in mileage. I need to check this EBPS and MAP sensor on her truck. My 2000 F250 is still doing pretty well very close to the same mileage. Neither truck has had a CPS go as yet and no symptoms of this at this point. No major mods have been made on either truck. Her truck is down to 10-12 MPG. Before it ran at 16-17 all the time. I will look for the information for cleaning both the MAP and the EBPS. Any help would be appreciated.
