I've noticed so dropped mileage lately too. But it is a combination of winter blend, excessive idling in the morning, before leaving work, and while at the store for quicker stops. My mileage is down to 9-10 mpg. Winter blend drops me down to 13 mpg. I just changed my fuel filter, I can't help but wonder if I might have other problems too...
I have been watching my Map Sensor closely lately. It started off reading about 0.2 psi lower than BARO at idle and now it is almost 2.5 psi lower at idle. Fule mileage has been droping as the MAP gets worse. New MAP is on the way so we'll see if it "Fixes" things

Yes I will definately be interested in that report.
aside from it telling you its bad would getting a new be a good idea, Im trying to replce all i can to get my baby running like new (with power add ons of course). I've been fighting with my mpg for a while now, anyway will buying a new (black) one be worth it or just buy a spare and wait?
I can't tell you if it will be "worth it" from a fuel mileage perspective, but it will be worth it if the cps goes and you are out on the highway without one .Someone just posted that they saw a bill for an installation of a cps at a Ford dealer and it was north of $400 parts & labor. I carry the spare and the socket with a small breaker bar...I can change it in the dark....
My truck is also experiencing a seriouse mpg drop. Changed oil, air filter, and fuel filter, checked air in tires. Truck runs fine and nothing noticeable to account for the drop. I am a bit baffled but have gone down from 14-16 in town to 11-13 for no apparent reason.
Can CPS be the culprit with no other symptoms? MAP? Anybody dealt with this and recovered their mileage?
I changed my oil today and right after I was done I went to start my X....and it wouldn't turn over...let it sit for a minute or 2 and gave it another shot and it turned over...maybe my CPS is on its way out as well...
PastorMike - Alot of sensors come into play to let the PCM decide on fuel mapping. the 3 that have the biggest impact are the MAP, EBPS, EOT. I had dropped an mpg or so and after cleaning the EBPS regained it. Now my MAP is starting to read low (?????) and the worse it has gotten the further the mpg has dropped. The new on should be here this week and we'll see after a tank or two what the result is.
MikeYs - I would look to a battery or battery connection and the starter solenoid on that one.
Well i should have a cps here for mine in the next day or so. Since my threw a code for it i'm pretty sure thats the problem. I just replaced the exhaust backpressure sensor and cleaned the tube b/c it was bad so i'm hoping a new cps will help cure the problem. since the old one still runs i'll just put it in the glove box as a spare.
My truck is also experiencing a seriouse mpg drop also. Changed oil, air filter, and fuel filter, checked air in tires. My mule runs great and nothing noticeable to account for the drop. My milage in town used to be 14-16 now it's 11-13 for no apparent reason.
New Blue CPS? Wondering if it could be the MAP? Anybody dealt with this and recovered their mileage?
When i get my new cps in mine i will let ya know. I just changed all fluids and filters on mine and it didn't help. I even checked all my ic boots and there is no leaking there. My truck actually threw a check engine light the other night when it missed and it said it was the cps so that is the only thing i can guess it is. Kwikkordead also said to me in this post that the cps going bad could cause a drop in mpg. I'll post back if it cures the problem in mine. I also ordered a blue cps and figured i would try one out.
Well finally got a new cps in my truck. It idles and runs a lot better now. Seems like my fuel mileage is a little better to. Towed my trailer today to go rding and it was a lot better.
