I can get a great deal on some 20" factory Ford 07 F30 Super Duty Wheels and tires and thought it would compliment my 05 front end conversion and bring my new 00 X up to date.
Has anybody ran spacers in the past ? Any vibration? Broken axles?
My X will never see off road but I will be towing a 24' race trailer.
Good question, and I'm looking forward to seeing some replies, too. Doesn't seem like it was that long ago that wheel spacers were cast aluminum and kinda dangerous....seemed like everyone knew someone that had a spacer break and ruin someone's day.
Theoretically, billet spacers SHOULD be a lot better...less porous, and hence less prone to breakage. But I don't think I'm gonna trust 'em until I hear some good stories about 'em.

I did some online research last night and found a few articles on installs on the rear of some GM Trucks because the rear diff on some models are much narrower and widening the rear stance greatly improves handeling and stability?
I would think the offset with the 05 up wheels + spacers would bring you close to the 04 and under offset?
I heard that spacers really wear down your front end. I wanted to get 35's but the back of the tires would rub against the frame or the Ibeams. I didnt want to spend the money on new rims so i went with 33's. I wanted to use spacers to fit the 35's but the tire dealer (conrads) said that these spacers will cause an extreme amount of wear on the front end.

Again, I would think the wear would come from the offset difference. If thier is only negligble offset difference between stock 04 offset and lets say 11/2" spacer and a 05-up wheel, your only dealing with about 1/2" of total offset.
I see 4X4's everywhere with a whole lot more offset than that with aftermarket wheels...no spacers... am I missing something?
I believe the theory is that by moving the wheel centerline further away from the wheel mounting pad on the brake rotor (either by a wheel with significantly more positive offset or with wheel spacers), the outer wheel bearing sees more of a load and is more prone to failure.
I guess I can agree with this theory to a point (i.e.: moving a wheel out more than a couple inches from its stock location), but it's my personal opinion that if your wheel bearings are properly adjusted, you're not gonna have any problems. But that is JUST my opinion; I've never messed around with large offset changes.
As RCN4HIM said, if you took an '05-up SD wheel with a lot of NEGATIVE offset and added a wheel spacer, your total offset in the end is going to be pretty close to the original figure for an '04-earlier, anyway. But as I said before, to me it's more a question of whether or not wheel spacers are safer these days than they were 20 or more years ago.
well, they make adapters to put a 10 lug truck wheel on the excursions and SD. it bolts to the factory studs and is spaced out to have the new flange with the 10 studs. so, you need to get a quality adapter, not just a spacer. using just a spacer will also lessen the ammount of threads that your lugs are holding onto. i have seen these adapters. its actually an 8 lug to 8 lug adapter.
