Thinking about an Excursion for the Mrs.

Just trying to get some feed back from you Excursion owners. The Mrs. needs a "New" vehicle we have 4 kids so we could sure use the space that the Excursion
provides. I'm specifically looking into a 2wd w/V-10 Not that concerned about the fuel mileage seeing as how I have friends with so called 7 passenger SUV's i.e. Expedition, Tahoe, and whatever it is Dodge makes. And they all say they get terrible fuel mileage. I have an '03 F-250 w/6.0L Diesel and I love it, but I'm not even thinking of putting the Mrs. in a PSD just want something that she can GAS 'N GO. Any input you have will be greatly appreciated....

Thanks,

JB

Does she mind doing having to walk . She will be limited as to parking . A lot of spaces are for smaller vehicles . The lots them selves have tighter ,sharper turns in them .Then backing out can be a challenge .
My wife backed into or on top of my Corvette in our drive way , she couldn't see it . There is a learning curve to driveing & handling it . Small toddlers have a hard time getting in , so there is a lot more lifting .
Then there is the Diesel smell , usually some spilled where you fill up & end up with it on your hands, shoes ect. If she is a very neat person & odor conscieous it will be a problem .
I love my X but every vehicle has it's special operational draw backs .

you would have to pry the keys outta of my wife's cold dead hands to get her ex from her-- you cant go wrong with this selection, big safe vehicle, parking might be an issue,ya just cant shove it into a focus sized parking spot otherwise you will get the hell beat out of it, as far as diesel smell, hey-- thats the only time i get to drive it!-i'm of the opinion that if she is not intimidated by the size, she will love-it

The X is an incredible family vehicle. You defiantly want the rear backup censers. Mine have savesd the boys bikes from geting run over more than once, and help with daily driving to. I own a 2000 V-10 X and it is the smoothest running vehicle I've owend. If your wife can drive your your truck in traffiic she'll do fine with the X. I get 12.5 mpg on average. Good luck with your hunt.

My wife and 17 year old daughter do not like to drive mine. Too clumsy and difficult to back up they say. They are also used to driving a vehicle that tracks straight down the road. It is not just the size. My wife used to love our Yukon XL, but it was much easier to drive.

I love the Excursion, but it is not for every one.

I love my X and my wife would drive it more often if i would let her. We put more miles on the X than on her Accord - eventhough it uses about 2X the gas, we love the space and comfort, plus the rear DVD keeps the 6 y/o happy.
I typically get 13.5-13.8 driving mixed city/hwy and as high as 17 on the interstate.

I love driving mine, but it is very hard to park. I usually drive my Miata to work. The gas mileage is so bad for around town driving that I wouldn't buy one unless I had the need to tow something very HEAVY. Horrible mileage is a relative term. I get 9-10 mpg around town, where I was getting 13 1/2 with my old 1990 1/2 to Suburban.

Definitely let her test drive it first... we upgraded from a 1/2 ton and my wife is having a hard time adjusting. She loves the Excursion when I'm driving but not so much when she has to drive. It can be tough to keep in a single lane. The space is great, the feeling of being safe and being king of the road is great.
I have the V8 4x4 avg. 16 mpg mixed hwy/fwy.

Hi everyone, sorry for sounding so negitive but here it goes. Have been a Ford owner, driver engine builder and racer since 1966. I have owned every kind of vehcile from audi to all types of GM and Mopars. More fords than you shake a stick at. Heck my uncle was a VP for FORD in the sixties. I wanted a Excursion for some time. My wife has had 2 subs and 3 caddys, in the last 6 years.Currently she has a Sub that she has driven 48,000 miles in the last 16 months. It still looks like brand new with 99,000 on the clock the mileage has gone up since it hit 75,000 miles. NO SIGN OF RUST on the hardware, or brakets or anything. I have a f250 a e350 a caddy fleetwood and my v10 ex. I luv the interior and the seating, the power of the v10 is great compraing to the GM's.But they are a piece of JUNK period.
This has made me lose faith in the FORD people and there better ideas. I have had it for the last 2.5 years and have more to list on the negitve side that the positve. I hate to say anything bad about these auto mfg. They have their good side and bad no matter who they are. The cost of the repairs is very high and there will be plenty.

I second that motion! Just passed 100K on my Excursion. It is the first vehicle I've bought new and driven that far in only 40 months. I've taken a BMW to higher miles (175K), but I worked on that car all the time. This big ol' SUV just keeps on plugging along with no grief whatsoever.

Would I recommend it for everyone? No. It is clumsy, huge, and loud (PSD). For my business and for my family (travel trailer), however, it is perfect.

My wife as a theory an "sprawl" factor. If the kids can touch each other, we need a bigger ride. We upgrade from a 96' Burb w/ a 454 for power and MPG. We have been very happy with it. True, it is a big SUV and my 15 year old learning how to drive is getting thrown right into the fire learning on this one. It's our only running vehicle as I am in the middle of a resotration project on a 72 Blazer. Plus it's stick and my baby so he won't get much driving time on that once it's done.
Bottom line.
Postive: Love the 7.3, lots of room, parking out in the boondocks gets you that extra exercise everyone needs.
Negative: Just had to spend about $1k on repair bills for a fuel drain leak and water pump. Truck has 130k miles on it.

At first my wife would not drive the X...she drove the minivan...now she will not let me drive it..it's (hers). parking is something you get used to..good for skills, we just back into all parking spaces.so leaving is no problem. Our V10 gets 9mpg city...the wife drives like a maniac...i drive like a grandma. Im happy with gas...no diesel....its smelly and noisy.no thanx. The kids complained in our minivan...not enough space...So i bought the X..now i say ,nothing is bigger than the X so no more complaining

my wife loves my Ex, if I would have known how much I would have bought 2 used ones instead of my new (was new) 05. what a lot of the other guys said is correct.

parking can be a problem at times, I always back in when possible. my wifes driving scares the **** out of me so if I'm in the Ex I'm driving and no one else. lots of room, we have 2 boxers and 1 baby boy so far--every other vehicle I get into seems tiny.
