Coolant capacity

Alright. I know my owners manual would tell me but seeing as how the manual wasnt in the Bronco when I bought it I need to ask. I am refilling the radiator in my Bronco after just replacing my heater core. What I need to know is how much coolant/water mixture do i put in the radiator. and is there a special trick to it. Like I have been told to fill it up and run the bronco with the cap off the radiator and when the bronc gets to a normal driving temp top off the radiator. Is that correct. I know this sounds like a 5 year olds newbie question but I am trying to learn as I go.

Thanks

Peace

The method you described should work just fine. Make sure if there is a valve that shuts off the coolant flow to the heater core, that you have it open when you refill the system (for obvious reasons). I believe that some year Bronco's had these valves which were cable actuated in-line in the hose that feeds the heater core. Don't ask me which years though. I know my 92 does not have this valve. Once you have topped off the radiator, keep whatever you may have left over with you in the truck for a while and check the overflow resevoir periodically to make sure the system remains full after all the air bubbles have worked their way out. I have never had to add more than a half cup of coolant to top off at the end of a week after draining and filling the system. Its just a precaution on my part to carry the extra coolant around for a while in the event yours truly got stupid and missed tightening a hose clamp.
