I’m in the market for a new Tonneau cover for the truck and wanted some opinions. The one I have has the vinyl cracking on it. I currently have a soft three bow Lund that I bought back in 1999. I like it because you can just roll it up if you buy something large on the spur of the moment. The thing I don’t like is that it shrinks up in cool weather and it’s a b!tch to snap back down in place when I’m done.
The Fiberglass ones are (not what I want) out and so are the retractable one because of the cost. Saw some that are called tri-fold and then there are the ones like what I have.
Can I fold the tri-fold type all the way up or do you have a roll up kind that isn’t hard to put back on in cool weather? Want opinions and suggestions and don’t be afraid to sound stupid or dump. Sometimes those are the responses that will jar something loose in my head and I’ll come up with the solution.
I too am looking at covers. The thing that I don't like about the tri-fold type is that you can't fold them up so that all sections are off of the bed. There is always the front section against the cab that doesn't fold up. Maybe I talked to an unknowledgeable salesperson but that is how I understood it. It would be nice if all three sections would fold together and then upright against the back of the cab so the whole bed could be used if you had a long tall load. I wasn't impressed with a friends on his chevy. The black outer trim on his tri-fold turned kind of blueish like the coating was super thin and wore off in about a year and a half. At this point I am leaning towards the Truxedo low profile. Where I work, they have them on a couple of trucks used for delivery. I have asked them what they thought. No water leaks and easy to use. They have held up well for about two years daily hard service.

Thats what I was wondering about with the tri-fold.
I would get another Lund cover like I have because you don’t have to drill any holes or anything like that and for the most part has kept the whether out. The back corners are also a little torn up from using pliers on the cover to pull it. It’s the ability to put the cover back on in cool whether that bothers me. I’ve also used heaters in the past to warm things up so that the vinyl could be stretched and the snaps would engage.
Has to be something better than what I have. Does the Truxedo have these problems?

I'll have to check this at home since I don't want to mess with this computer at work.
I just bought an Access brand cover off of ebay for $290 shipped. I bought it because my father who lives in South Dakota swears by it. He said shrinkage isn't a problem. The covers are made in North Dakota, those folks know cold weather. Couple of other nice features, the end and the bows roll up with the tarp, so there are no spare parts laying around the bed when I roll it up. I didn't have to drill any holes. It does seem to built well.
All that FTE article shows is how to put on a truxcedo tonneau cover. That's the same way an Access goes on also. The Access covers seem to now come with a front rubber seal that you put on the front of the box which is supposed to help keep out water and dirt better. I've had an Access on my Ranger, and now have the Access toolbox edition on my F150. I've never had 1 problem with them. My sister also had a Truxcedo on her Ranger, it never was as tight as the Access, until I bottomed out the springs.
If you want a low-profile cover Truxcedo Lo-pro, and Access Lorado are fine, unless you want the ultimate low-profile cover The Access Vanish http://www.agricover.com/index.php/p...category/C103/ is that. I emailed Access when it's due to come out and they have released a few models, and just need to contact a distributor for more info.
best advise i can give it to get one that doesn't have snaps....i've had many, many, many covers and i like the ones that are snapless the best....they look the best and they are the easies to take on and off and even better they don't break or rip snaps.....
I love my Advance Cover folding tonneau. I've had it for about 4 years now and it's held-up well. I think I paid about $600 with delivery. If you want to remove the whole thing you only need to loosen 2 set screws.
When installing it, just make sure you have it exactly centered on the bed, otherwise the front flap may come open on the highway.
