I’m in the market for a new Tonneau cover for the truck and wanted some opinions. The one I have has the vinyl cracking on it. I currently have a soft three bow Lund that I bought back in 1999. I like it because you can just roll it up if you buy something large on the spur of the moment. The thing I don’t like is that it shrinks up in cool weather and it’s a b!tch to snap back down in place when I’m done.
The Fiberglass ones are (not what I want) out and so are the retractable one because of the cost. Saw some that are called tri-fold and then there are the ones like what I have.
Can I fold the tri-fold type all the way up or do you have a roll up kind that isn’t hard to put back on in cool weather? Want opinions and suggestions and don’t be afraid to sound stupid or dump. Sometimes those are the responses that will jar something loose in my head and I’ll come up with the solution.
You might be interested in the new cover that we have coming out this month. It's called the Truxedo Deuce. It is a soft roll-up cover that exposes the whole bed if you have something large to haul, but it also has the second option of being able to fold it open at the cab area if you just need to get something out of your truck that is stored up there (or if something has rolled to the front.) The Deuce is the only soft roll-up hinged cover on the market. It does not shrink in the winter and it also has automatic tension control. Which means as the temperature fluctuates through out the day, the cover will automatically stay tight. If you think you would just want a soft roll-up cover then the Truxedo Lo Profile is a good choice. Here is a link to the videos that show the different features: http://www.truxedo.com/maingallery/sales-video.html
I haven't seen that one, but I do like the low pro truxedo.
Trifolds are really simple. The cover is perminately attached to the frame so all you have to do is clamp the frame back on the bed. Extang has the best I have seen so far, in fact until one of my reps showed it off, I hated triFolds. The older clamps were screw-on and a pain, extang made the rear most one spring loaded.
From expensive to cheaper, my progression is Pace edwards, Roll-n-lock, undercover, Truxedo, extang. I try to only use these because in the last five years they have given me the least amount of trouble with my customers.
I have a Extang full tilt. Its a vinyl cover that will tilt up like a hard shell or you can take it off like one. You can also roll it up when your out just like a regualar Vinyl cover. This is my 2nd truck with one and I wont but anything else.
No, the trifold is fixed to a frame and the frame folds into three sections.
The extang full tilt has snaps, like all extangs the snaps are off set and come off and rotate to change the tension. The bows have two positions, high and low which also allows you to adjust the tension. In florida, I have only had to rotate the tailgate snaps on a brand new cover on what seemed like the coldest day of the year. So they so shrink, but very little.
My cover is snaps but I think Extang makes them both ways now (also with snapless) And it does shrink but not much because I never unsnap mine at all. I dont rotate the snaps because there tough to get snapped in the winter like all vinyl covers.
I also have the Extang fulltilt (snapless) cover. I love this cover because there is no need to roll it up if your going to pick something up. It only takes a minute to take the whole thing off without having to roll and stow. I live in PA and in the winter it would be almost impossible to stretch back out.Just my 2 cents. Good luck with whatever you choose.

and to back up my cover, it only takes a minute to roll it up as well it was -11 out last night (close to -35 with wind chill) and i went out and unrolled it, came back in 3 hrs and rolled it back flat - perfect! all just to prove that access is a great choice as well.
i guess it comes down to the look and convenience. for some, rolling up up is easy the look is great, others a hard top for better safety of bed items is, etc etc etc.
again, like all have said, gl with what you choose, and please let us know!
I just ordered a low-pro and will have it put on later this week. Looked for a couple weeks and thats what I decided on. I like the way it works, the bows roll up with it right to the window.
I'm also looking for a cover for my truck. 06 Screw with the 6.5" flareside bed. I'm having a hard time finding one for the flareside. Any suggestions? What's everyone using?
Thanks, Dayne

At Shur-Co we make a soft rollup cover that will go with your truck. It is available in the Truxedo Lo Profile. It has special clamps for mounting. The part number would be 567101. You can view the special instructions on our web site. Just click on the Flareside instructions. http://www.truxedo.com/lopro/installation.html
