Both my cats have been gutted on my 87 F150 5.0. I hate that annoying pinging noise coming from the hollow cats. I have considered cutting the 2 pipes in front of the 1st cat, having a 2 to 1 collector put there, and putting one high flow cat after that. Will this work OK or is there an easier way to get rid of that noise? The pipe was not cut to gut the cats, just a door cut in each one and welded back.
Hey there 87black150!
You may as well get rid of the blank cats. It'll ping forever! Plus it's hurting your performance and fuel mileage. You can do what you want with the down pipes, and that's a good idea you have there, with a high flow cat... Talk with you later....
