79 F350 Trailer Special Super Cab 2wd. I need a Hot in Run wire for my Tach. Where is a good place to pull one from with out removing the dash?
Thanks
Ken
hi there you can take it from the fusebox, 1or 2 places, constant power or with the key on if you dont have available i used the back of the cigarette lighter thats easy to get to with no special tools
You should use a hot wire that is powered only when the key is in the run position. By the way you stated in your post I think you alreadt knew that. Anyway, you can pull a hot from the fuse panel or almost anyother wire that in powered when the key is on. Start checking around with a test light. You should be able to find something. I think the radio might work, but it would be on in the acceaaory position, too. Maybe the wiper circuit.
If you were to pull the dash cover there's a yellow connector with three female bayonette plugs that has keyed 12V available. You could plug right into that and not have to butcher or splice into anything.

Second picture, middle of picture, red wire from wiper control is plugged into it.
You should be able to get to that yellow triple connector (12V key on) under the dash from the drivers side foot well. (you shouldn't have to remove the dash cover). -Ed

I also ran my tach wire to the yellow plug , good invention from ford , wish I had known about it ten years ago . Also ran my 15" fan . That way when key is off power to fan and tach are off . No drained battery . KFLORD77
I have both of mine wired into my radio fuse, but I don't have a radio in either of those trucks. :-D
Same here. :)
I ordered my pickup without a radio and used that empty connector to fire up the aftermarket Dana speed control I installed in '76. :) It's still in there and working good.
That was back when Sears actually sold good stuff. ;)
