Hey guys, I just went out and plugged mine in- it's about 30 degrees here-stuck my head in the fender well to hear, and to my delight I heard the tell-tale sizzle that I've grown so accustomed to listening for to make sure she is working. My IDI is a bear to start, as you all well know if you've been watching all of my posts and replies, so I'll let her warm for a few hours and let you know how she starts.
When I purchased my truck, I saw that the plug in was disconnected from the block and tied up near the radiator. Maybe the previous owner did this because the heater was bad? Should i plug it in and see if it works? Im worried that it will start a fire or short circuit...lol I may try it and see, let me know if yours goes well!!!
Chase backward from the plug first, inspecting the wire as you go. Then try plugging it in. If you can get your head in or very close to the inner fender you might be able to hear it if it fires up. Nice thing about it on those cold days, your heater is already warmed up for you. By the way, I started my truck. An hour and a half plugged in, a little burst of ether, ( no glow plug system to speak of ) and the battery charger on boost. It probably hasn't been fired for a couple weeks, so for my truck, that wasn't bad. Also, I have replaced that little heating element that goes in the freeze plug hole more than one time on mine, It's not too hard to do. Remove the old one first to take to the parts store to match it though, There are a ton of designs. I would imagine that the part would be the same for your truck. If you want, I'll see if I can find the brand and part number on mine, this one seems to have lasted the longest out of all of them. I think I've replaced it three or four times. Anyway, got another 3 threads to start, so check it out see if it works, let me know if you want a part number.
