Okay guys I have a 2000 PSD with 158k miles. This morning I noticed a generous oil leak with the engine idling. The leak was under the engine, so cleaned the underside and located the dripping to be here:
What is this? Is it a weep hole for the tranny housing? The leak seems to be oil. But I don't know if it is tranny fluid or engine oil. It seems pretty thin for engine oil, but I'm not sure. It is leaking from here as well as the back of the engine block.
I have checked the top of the engine and turbo pedastal bolts. The bolts are tight and there is no leak from the HPOP or HPOP lines. However, I have found a fuel leak at the back of the filter (puddle in valley). I have been smelling fuel for some time and been ignoring it. But now that I have been looking for this oil leak, I found where fuel is leaking. Could this fuel be mixing with engine oil and causing me to think I have an oil leak? Maybe mixing with the oil residue from the turbo intake boots and running down the backside of the engine into this on the tranny?
Fix the fuel leak, clean every thing up and the drive it and see if the leak is gone. Diesel fuel and road grime look like oil sometimes when mixed. That is what I would try before going overboard.
