I have a 1992 302 with 151,000. The truck runs super but if I take it on a long drive (greater than 70 miles at speeds of 70 + mph , I always will need to replace the breather element. I realize that the crankcase hose that runs to the air cleaner housing is designed for this purpose, but it seems like there is too much "blow back" or oil buildup on the element.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 01-14-03 AT 00:53 AM (EST)]I had the same situation with my 92 302. But I had worse problems than that so I can't tell you any real fix for that specific problem because I put in a new 302 before I addressed this problem. (A number 8 piston with a hole in it was a more urgent dilema). Its my understanding in reading some other recent posts that high mileage 302's are prone to this kind of increased blow-by. I must say the new engine has had no such difficulties. But I do know the situation, the blow-by had gotten bad enough prior to the engine swap, that I had trouble keeping breather elements in one piece. They would get so oil-soaked that they would literally fall apart under the air filter. The old engine had a mere 85,000 miles on it but the original owner was a blithering idiot.
