What is wrong with peoples heads these days? During the National Anthem at a swim meet a was volunteering at There was to high school boys talking to each other during the anthem. I spoke to them afterward, which was alot like talking to a rock. Shortly after speaking with them one of there fathers came up and asked me why I spoke to his child. After explaining to him why I spoke to his son he then told me never to "preach that patriotic crap" to his son. There is no sense of respect in this generation. Used to be you wouldn't dare talk during the anthem. Maybe it is the 8 years of service talking, or maybe it was my upbringing. I don't know.
I hardly see anyone being respectful and it makes me sick to my stomache.
And though I don't always agree on things, I absolutly suport and respect this country and "patriotic crap" as he put it!
The problem is they think everthing should be handed to them and that they deserve it. Their is no respect in that, they should realize you have to earn things. And its parents like that, that are setting this next generation up for failure, and when they get to taking over were all screwed!
Don't just think that it is all of us that are disrespectful. I am 24 and I feel the same way as you do. It's not right that this jerk was talking during the national anthem and then his dad has to come up and say that. Maybe they will rid them selfs from the gene pool.
If that happened here in the Cincinnati area I would have called the jerk line that they created to report people who were acting up at games and such.
More and more of our national identity is being eroded away every day. Go to Lowes or HD and see the signs in english and spanish. Go to your ATM and be asked what language do you want. I'm in the great state of Maryland, which last time I checked was in the United States, what language do you think I want? Most people just dont care. When driving and I see a American flag flying, I always say hoo-rah. Well my girls picked that up and now do it too. Multicultural??? If I want that I'll go to europe.
try this on for size, the county that I live in "cabarrus' in NC just passed a resolution making English the official language. WTF I thought it already was

Just be glad you dont live up here. There is a state senator trying to give tuition breaks to illegals for state schools. Now that the dems are back in control it'll probably pass.
On the other side: We were at a JV High School Football game this past season...during the National Anthem, two boys down front (with their hats on) were talking and cutting up. Immediately after the Anthem, one of the boy's Dad walked up behind them and popped both of them in the head...knocking their hats off...and proceeded to chew some serious butt. What followed was "yes sir" and "...won't happen again, sir".
At half time I walked up to the Dad, shook his hand and simply told him thanks. He knew why.
I agree with Dennis' statement about not painting the whole generation with the same brush. In fact, it's not just the youngest generation that shows lack of respect for things such as the National Anthem or removing their headgear while indoors. I've witnessed many younger ones who stand at attention and place their hands over their heart while the parents either chatted away, or worse yet, simply sat until it was over. I've seen people cut off a funeral procession rather than pull over and let them pass. This shows and appalling lack of manners, in my opinion, and a lack of manners generally starts at home. I believe if the parents have none, chances are the children won't either. I was raised to show respect for my country and my elders, and have tried to conduct myself with decorum at all other times, as do many of the generation behind mine. The problem seems to be that the ones who don't have any respect for such things are the ones that tend to get on our nerves. I like to believe that those disrespectful types are in the minority, however, and that by and large, there is respect for our country and its traditions.
The National Anthem aside, I'm upset that my 8 year old son tells me that they don't recite the pledge to the flag in class anymore. I was told it was because of the line that states "under God" by some other folks.
Back at the schools "Christmas" program, they played the anthem. Now tell me why a school will have a Christmas program but won't recite the pledge?
Should of told the father that talking and making noise during this time was considered disruptive, and disrespectable behavior,Nothing to do with his non american beliefs, just the rules,,,like it or leave.................and that you were going outside and if he wanted to contiunue his crying there you would be happy to wipe away his tears ......................lol
